New Releases

Post by HansBolter »

Is this forum ever going to be moved out of the New Releases category?

Game was released 15 years ago.

Matrix obviously has a lossey goosey kind of definition of the term "new".

This question has been asked a few times over the years. No answer from Matrix has ever been forthcoming as far as I know. Frankly, I think "new" has become a label for games which sell just enough to keep them out of the "current" category. Even the original War in the East game from 2010 hangs out in the new release section with its sequel.

If they move the game out of the "New Releases" category, it may be moved to the discontinued or retired games.

One could even say that this game has sort of.."cult following"... 8-)

Sardaukar's cult must be a Totentanz School on Salsa Secundus. Salsa Secundus is a planet in Strasbourg 1518 system.

In a similar twist you have a few titles like Uncommon Valor and the 2004 version of War in the Pacific that have been long discontinued from the store. But their mostly inert forums still reside in the "Current Games from Matrix" section.

I recall Uncommon Valor with fond memories.
Still have my hardcopy stored away somewhere.

Wanted very much, at one time, to give War Plan Orange a try, but going back to the original game engine after getting hooked on AE would be like trading in a Rolls for a Yugo.

And agree while heartedly with the Cult following comment.

I was a beta-tester for Wall Plan Orange, talk about blast from past.

As bonus, we got our names as captains of ships of our choice in it. I think mine was/is in RN BC Lion.

That has a certain ring to it: Sardaukar, Lion of Espoo - or should that be Utsjoki?

Nah, none of those places.

I've just been diving deep into this game since August this year. And it is crazy to me when I think about how I could travel back in time at any point in the past 15 years and I could still play it.

2009? Yes I could play it. 2013? Yes. 2016? Oh of course. 2020 during COVID? I would have spent months playing this during quarantine. I know there have been many patches, but still, it is WITP AE. :P

I never got Uncommon Valor, since shop that had them had sold out and online ordering back then was not a thing.

But original WitP, got that when it did came out...feels like ages ago....

I would love to try out the original War in the Pacific to see how it is but I can't seem to find it anywhere. It disappeared from the Internet completely. If anything I assume the map would look like War Plan Orange?

Matrix discontinued it some years ago. With some new titles on the subject coming out they probably felt it was time to retire it from their line.
