A simple algorithm of modern naval combat

Post by LoBlo »

Ok, so these naval scenarios seem to always boil to logistical contest that can be represented by at least one side facing a simple algorithm.

1. Can you saturate the AAW protection of the high valued asset, adjusting for accounting for PK modifiers (jamming, stealth)?
Yes: proceed with attack
No: See step 2.

2. Do you have logistical superiority and can deplete weapon stores?
Yes: proceed with multiple attacks
No: lose scenario.

Can anyone bring any creativity or ingenuity to these types of engagements?

Might want to search on "attrition" or missile attrition". Its been discussed in detail many times.

Counterpoints:
1. Submarines
2. Mines
3. Sea power is usually only effective as a method to generate effects on land, where people actually live. If you can't generate the desired effects within the time/space necessary, you have not succeeded, even if you ran the enemy out of weapons.
