SC WW2: WAW won't let me assign ai control to Japan

Post by alcaray2 »

Just bought the game at GOG and trying to play 1939 World at War scenario as Germany+Italy and let the AI control Japan. I've a blue circle around Japan icon. Still gives me control of Japan units (and shows me Japan popups) when the game starts.

I've tried restarting the game. I've tried shutting off and turning back on AI for Japan while letting some turns go by - can't get AI to turn on for Japan. I tried switching to Allies and giving myself control of only Poland - I only get control of Poland as it should be. Switching back to Axis with Japan excluded still gives me control of Japan when the next turn starts.

Did I mess up an option or a script to cause this? I did change a few options. I only browsed through the scripts (trying to guess what the frick they might possibly do) without intending to turn any off.

I can't find anyone else complaining about this issue here or at GOG so I assume it's a strange personal problem. Any idea what I can try?

I was curious and tried your approach - I can confirm that for my Steam version that it acted as intended. Japan was played by the AI and reverted to my control when I changed the setting. This doesn't help with your version but it might help with troubleshooting.

Things are probably working as intended, as you have given the AI control of Japan, but we still allow players to intervene should they wish to, i.e. you can move their units, make purchases etc, but when you hit end turn, the AI will move any further units, spend any remainining MPPs etc.

This means that if you want to guide the AI's behaviour, while leaving it to (largely) get on with things itself, you can.

Or you can let it do everything, but this will only happen when you press End Turn.
