Unit Placement Observations

Post by jhdeerslayer »

1. When placing units during set up, I've noticed the mouse pointer does not align very well with the unit you are trying to place. It could be 3 or more squares away so it can be a little confusing. If it matters, I'm in 3D mode about 45 deg or more angle from the map.

2. For me anyway, it would be nice to have units stay Attached during Placement as you typically going to set them up one unit at a time and not at the formation level. Currently I set the formation up, and then Select All and Re-Attach.

3. If you drag a unit to Place it, and it goes out of the FOV, it randomly disappears and gets placed in a random spot on the map. You then need to hunt where the program decided to place it even though you never told it to place it.

About placing units. Dragging is a bit unpredictable because there has never been a specification of how it should work in certain cases (e.g. dragging a blob of units/formations and then some of them hit terrain that is impassable for them), so it has been left as it is so far.

If you want to place units to an exact spot, the first tutorial says:

a. Mouse right-click to open the Command Menu, select PLACE, and click on the location.
b. Press the SPACEBAR key, and click on the location.

don't forget...
c. Re-attach unit to parent.
