Helicopter confusion

Post by HobbesACW »

Hi folks, I'm playing The End in the Sahara scenario. It seems if I fly helicopters to the massive airfield to the south there is no easy way of refuelling them? There are HQs but they are fixed and not positioned on a landing "H". I can't land on a hex that doesn't have the H symbol but I can let my helicopters run out of fuel over a HQ and then the helicopter will land and be refueled. This seems a bit odd? I've started to just let helicopters run out of fuel anywhere on the map as long as I can easily get a HQ to them. This can't be intentional? I'm surprised I've not seen this mentioned before.

Ah yes, that was one of the scenarios that had the refresh but I forgot to move the headquarters to the right location.

I'll remedy that for the update.

THANK YOU for the reminder!

Thanks Jason. It seems a bit odd though that if the "Historical Landing Rule" is selected helicopters can still land anywhere but only if they run out of fuel. It's a bit gamey. If this rule is selected wouldn't it be better if helicopters could only be refueled on a hex that was a valid hex to land on and be destroyed if running out of fuel?

The original idea was to have the ability to regain helicopters that had been lost in the field (aka ran out of fuel) as when they are out of fuel they are forced to land - as you saw.

I think one thing that would help is the ability to have only specific HQ's or supply units the ability to do that based on the organization structure of the helicopter unit.

That takes some serious coding though, so not sure when that will be implemented. Right now it is a free for all as long as you have ANY HQ or supply unit in the field, which I don't think is correct.
