[Q] OPEN TOPOMAP display refresh speed ?

Post by ElGlobo »

Hi,
Currently working on a scenario which takes place in a town with very historical located events and structures, I'm using the Open topomap feature which is great.

What I have noticed, is that it takes a long time to load the desired zone, in which I usually zoom at max, to see the road's names and when I try to locate precisely the historical structures I searched for at google map.

Since I've got a 1 GO download capacity, I was wondering how Open topomap worked in CMO, if there was a trick or some manual configuration to increase the speed of displaying the wanted area in the game ?

Is this happening only in the editor?

Hi,

It happens both in the editor and in normal game. The more I'm zooming, the more the map has to download details...

So, logically it's longer when you zoom on a big city where there are more roads name, details, etc...

I understand that the game has to download visual datas, and I guess it puts them in cache somewhere, but unless the opentopomap server itself restreins download rate from my side it should runs fast, my cap when I download datas like game install from Steam or when I do some download speed test is at 100 mo/s more or less.

So far I've tested, the map is loading, I don't have dark zones, freezes, it just takes some time, like a high resolution satellite zooming.

In my experience, the OTM servers have "bad and good days". On a good day it's indistinguishable from loading cached tiles from local storage. On a bad day I actively check my net connection for any hiccups.
