I read about this yesterday was a bit shocked.

I have played several of his games.

That is sad news! I've played at least one of his games that I know of, probably even more.

RIP, Alan!

It's good we are honoring his passing on this forum. Mostly I remember the wargame reviews he wrote for magazine Computer Gaming World, probably mid/late-1980s.

I remember him as a smart guy, who wrote a lot of game reviews and strategy tips in the late 80's and 90's. I think, for a time he was a lecturer at university teaching game design? I liked his input on "Empire Deluxe" computer game by White Wolf Productions and "A House Divided" by GDW/AH.

I’m sorry to hear of Alan’s passing. Before CGW and before SSI, there was a game convention at Cal State Fullerton. I remember going in 1976 or 1977 (before I was 20), and being so excited to be at a strategy gaming convention. At the convention they held a game auction, and the young game auctioneer was Alan Emrich. He might have still been in high school, but he had a great command of the games and a great sense of humor. I always enjoyed speaking with him when he was at CGW, and I saw him at several game conventions over the years. I wasn’t at all surprised he became a teacher, as from an early age you could see he had the ability to entertain you and educate you at the same time. Having just googled his career, I can see I should have thanked him for his role in starting the game conventions in the LA area.

Guy was a Legend. Genuine. Think Alan was involved in the Castles game or was it Stronghold. Been awhile, cannot remember. Gonna start writing my obituary. Sands of Time running out.
