Multiple Issues With Steam Version TOAOW4

Post by JarlGreedo »

Good afternoon, Matrix family. I decided to purchase The Operational Art of War IV on steam last Friday and was looking forward to learning how to play. Unfortunately for whatever reason I can't open up the accompanying documents with any of the scenarios. I hoped to use these documentations to help guide through the learning process. Another issue I am having with the game is SCE files. Is there supposed to be a way to open and read them? Are they supposed to play in game? I have no idea. Lastly, two locations have appeared for the files. The first one is in my, "ThisPC>Documents>MyGames" and the second is in, "ThisPC>Windows C:>ProgramFiles(x86)>Steam>Steamapps>Common". Which folder do I use and for what? I have seen someone in the community has made a set of tutorials to teach the user how to properly play and I would love to play them but after I downloaded the first zip I had no idea where to put the folders and SCE files. I've tried putting them in each location one at a time and both at the same time and just end up with doubles in game that can't be clicked or they don't show up at all.

I understand and admit I am technologically impaired and some of the simplest computer tasks can be turned into a herculean FUBAR blunder. I am sure it's a simple fix that I just can't wrap my head around for whatever reason. Sometimes it feels like reading in a different language. If you know what I am doing wrong, I would be extremely grateful to be informed so I can just get on with it and actually enjoy the game. Thank you for your time and patience.

Here's my article on the User Interface:

Might want to read the manual a bit, too.

The UI walkthrough was helpful. I haven’t finished it yet but that’s the plan for this evening.

What about the scenario document button and the SCE files? Is microsoft Word absolutely needed? Or can I use an alternative? I am having difficulty trying to put what’s needed, where it’s needed to work.

I just want to say thank you again. It may feel like you’re trying to explain this to a child which can be extremely annoying. I’m sorry about that. Thank you again for your time and effort.

Depends upon the document. If it is a Word document then you must have a Word reader to read it. There are free readers available online. If it is a PDF document then a PDF reader is needed. Same thing about free readers for that. Other formats are possible as well - depends upon the author of the tutorial. Again, the right reader is required.

Scenario files are read by the game system either to play the game or edit the scenario.
