Questions about AA

Post by Cones2002 »

When AA is being destroyed, is it more skewed toward what you have more of or what has less effect?
Or is it both or something else entirely?

With diving attacks, does the AA fire at set intervals?
So at 4500 feet, 3000 feet, 2000 feet, etc etc until the plane reaches the bombing height?

Hi.
In my own experience it seems that more of what is actually present is destroyed. You generally have more light guns and even though the big 88's do more damage it's the light guns that take most of the damage.
I couldn't speculate on bombing heights.

Okay, awesome. Planned on using AA MGs as meatshield AA, so I can go ahead with that now.

To me it seems that the more AA you have in a target hex the more destroyed AA guns you get.

The more AA you have the more damage it does to the attacking aircraft is obvious. But it also looks to me that a larger number of AAguns is a larger target than a lesser number of guns. If I am right, the adding AA machine guns as shields might draw hits on them from the heavier guns, but also yield more destroyed guns in total.

Note that I am not yet sure of this effect.

If that is a thing, it's likely due to planes targeting AA rather than the target they were assigned to destroy like a factory or radar. I'll see it myself if/when my opponent attacks a high AA concentration target

If it is indeed a thing, I began to notice it at my radar sites when fighter-bombers take out the radar. The more AA i've had, the more losses the FBs take, and the more AA losses (I suspect) I take. Although, I have done no testing on my theory and without testing it will remain a theory (or an answer from someone more in the know).

I doubt that the AIO take out radar sites by targeting the AA.

I also noticed that despite bulking up to approx 300 AA guns of all calibres it rarely succeeded in stopping a FB attack from damaging a radar site back up to 100 damage PROVIDED the site had been damaged previously.
The more guns you have the more gun losses you take but the serious amount of increased FB destroyed or crashing on the way home is well worth it. Plus don't forget that some of those that get home will have wounded pilots, that's those guys out for a while and newbie pilots in their place tomorrow further weakening the efficiency of the unit.
So, in a nutshell, what can be wrong in having more guns!!?
