Ship screen and FOW

Post by Yaab »

While my CL Boise took one aerial torpedo and suffered huge damage, on the same turn CA Houston took two aerial torpedoes and suffered moderate damage. I watched the combat animation of the attack and saw Kates strike CA Houston twice.

To my astonishment, once I opened the CA Houston's ship screen to compare the CA Houston's damage to the CL Boise's, I noticed that the last thing that had struck CA Houston was a ...250kg GP bomb.

So, either the combat animation was FOWed or the ship screen is FOWed.

There is a third explanation - an invisible patrol aircraft, that is not mentioned in messages or combat/ops reports, hit CA Houston after the torpedo attack. ( I have written about it here:

Doesn't mean the bomb caused the damage, it means the last thing to hit it was the bomb.

But later in the turn, and afterwards in the combat report/ops report, there was no subsequent air attack against this TF. That is the point.

It does not necessarily mean that the bomb hit first.

I have had torpedo hits with only single digit non-major damage.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing! :o
