CMO air to air weapon damage and A/C damage

Post by Tcao »

I'd like to take a moment here to complain about the low damage to aircraft structures and subsystems from anti-air weapons in CMO . I've had multiple instances where an enemy aircraft took a hit from an air-to-air missile, got damaged, then turned around and fired a radar-guided missile right back at me.

There are two areas where I hope the CMO dev team can take a second look:

1. The damage and firing rate of .50 caliber heavy machine guns
Currently, a burst of 100 rounds from a .50 MG deals 0.2 DP , which is the same as a 50-round burst from a 7.7mm machine gun. This results in two problematic scenarios:

1.1 An equal number of Hellcats (top speed: 380 knots) are defeated by an equal number of Zeros (top speed: 420 knots???). Not only are the Zeros faster(?? ?), but they also get more firing opportunities and inflict more damage.

1.2 In Korean War scenarios, F-86A can barely shoot down MiG-15s. The Sabres quickly run out of ammo during dogfights and then get shot down by the MiG-15’s 23/37mm cannons.

2. the real focus is Vietnam War, late Cold War, and modern scenarios. The effectiveness of air-to-air missiles and cannons against aircraft subsystems is insufficient. Some examples from my save games:

An Iranian F-4 is hit by an AIM-120C, with 75% structure damage, yet only the RWR is damaged? The radar, engine, and other components are still fully functional?

A MiG-23 is hit by a Sidewinder , but sustains only minor damage. A MiG-23 is hit by two bursts of 100 rounds from 20mm cannons (so that’s 200 rounds 20mm total), but takes less than 15% structural damage, and no subsystems are damaged? That same MiG-23 is then hit by 400 rounds of 20mm cannon fire, and this time only the radar is damaged, while all other components remain intact?

Some interesting points there.

This cracked me up.
The boogabooga doctrine for CMO: Any intentional human intervention needs to be able to completely and reliably over-ride anything that the AI is doing at any time.
