Post Austro-Hungarian Surrender: new states' alignment

Post by mdsmall »

I notice from checking the Editor that the four new states formed after the Austro-Hungarian Empire collapses (i.e. Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary and Yugoslavia) all swing towards the Entente and will become 100% mobilized for the Entente after a maximum of three turns. (This is because there is a Type 2 Mobilization #3 script which swings each of them 33-50% per turn towards the Entente, as soon as they declare independence).

I would be interested to know the devs thinking behind scripting this. It is different for the new states formed after the Russian Empire collapses and withdraws from the war (only Ukraine has a Type 2 mobilization script, and it is easily offset by the Central Powers).

Have other readers played out a game in which the new central European states, post Austro-Hungarian collapse, mobilized for the Entente and became active participants in the final stages of the war? Does this seem a) historically reasonable or b) at least fun and interesting to explore? Or does it make more sense that these new states should remain neutral, even if somewhat aligned towards the Entente?

Cheers,

Michael

I have played it out in MP after A.H fails and there have been some brief but interesting battles, like Germans taking Prague and fighting the Poles to try to crush them in a last ditch attempt to stave off defeat.

Yugoslavia and to the lesser extent Hungary might be far away, but for Czechs or Kraków to actively declare war on Germany is mass suicide... this could at least be contingent on presence of German units around.

Normally, Austria-Hungary only collapses late in the game. I think the assumption behind this scripting is that Russia will immediately move forces into the territory of their allies in newly independent Poland and Czechoslovakia and will carry on the offensive against Germany from there. If so, it would make sense to add a Variable_Condition that Russia is still in the war on the Entente side. I will let others comment on whether this makes political or historical sense.
