Another suggestion, if I might.

Welcome to the new war raging across hundreds of light years at once, with mechanized Titans as the main fighting force.

hey, not to be picky, but would it be possible to eject from a Titan with a shut down engine?

please?

(if it is, just smack me for being stupid).

Blew up a Badger with a CC combat Light Titan (a Driller, 2 Vibra Claws, 4 Lt Mesons). The explosion knocked my jock out, and set the woods on fire. By the time the jock woke up, his engine had shut down.

Had his other three squad mates trying to run to his rescue to clear the woods, but alas, too late.

woulda been nice to been able to save the jock from fiery death, if not the Titan.

Also, perhaps someone should teach the AI that if his cover is afire, his leg is missing, and his heat reg is shot to hell, now would be time to eject. I call an AI opponent in this situation a time bomb, and it is quite fun to try and lure the rest of his squad mates into blast range.

If the engine is shutdown, you cannot access the titan's move and attack modes.

One could look at this in two ways.

1.) The engine is shut down, therefore one cannot eject due to the lack of power.

2.) The ejection system is using the tried an true method of relying on explosive bolts, which do not reley on a power source. Much like the ejection systems of modern day aircraft.

It just depends on which explanation that you subscribe to.

I would say that I like the agonizing wait util restart until I can eject,, but on the other hand alot has been put into the game to make realism a key aspect (The turn system for example), that it doesn't seem right that one cannot eject under those circumstances.

yeah, and it more than slightly annoying, not to mention somewhat of a downer, when you lose both the Titan AND the Jock because your opponent exploded.

Don't get me wrong, I really don't mind engine explosions. But being knocked unconcious, and then having your engine shut down because you are now standing in fire, or just having your engine heat spiked into shut down, and being in a fire. You have about a minute of game time going: well, hell, at this point, I coulda manually popped the hatch, and WALKED out, much less ejected. Instead, you gotta hope a fellow squadmate can get there, lock the hex with cannons, and blow the fire out.

Doesn't happen a lot, I know, but can be a bit more frustrating than otherwise. Yeah, I'm going to lose the Titan, I know that, and truly don't mind (I think it is kinda funny actually), but losing the Jock when he/she is fully concious just sounds wrong.

(and yes, one would think, from a realism point of view, that an ejection seat, from any type of vehicle, would not depend on the primary power source to function. I mean, explosive bolts and all that.)

Think of it as your on-board computer being offline and therefore cannot calculate the chance for a successful eject :D
You're thinking of a titan's ejection system as a "normal" eject seat. What if it isn't? What if it is a full cockpit, with life support capability and such? Remember this is a game that can take place in any kind of hostile environment.

Ejecting into fire? That's pretty much the same as ejecting into acid or lava.
Blow the fire out with cannons?! You mean missiles...

I never lost a jock this way in lots of games of WS. I like the lurking danger in shutdowns and uncontrolable events. Therefore its unlikely I will allow ejects while shutdown or voluntary shutdowns to avoid explosion. I can see your point but it doesn't match my style of design, sorry.

Yep, that situation sucks, I've lost 2-3 jocks that way in the past, BUT even if they did just open the hatch manually...They'd be crawling out into the middle of a raging forest fire... out of the frying pan and into... well you see where I'm coming from. Best hope is the fire burns itself out before you go *BANG*

Same for a jock in 'hell' with whacked heat regs and already shut down, needs the 'life support' that comes with the ejection seat to survive the hostile enviroment, crawling out is a death sentence.

That's just my 'justification' of the situation.
