French Morale improvement in October 1940

Post by Umeu »

There is a trigger to improve French morale if they survive until October 1940, but one condition is that they must still control Paris. I feel like this is too restrictive, it might as well not exist then. It would be better if the French get this bonus if still fighting in October, regardless of who controls Paris, unless Germany declined the option to form Vichy and is trying to take All of France.

It can be difficult to inform the engine to make something happen if something else hasn't happened. Probably the only solution would be to change the requirement from Paris to Bordeaux.

Could it be ‘Paris OR Bordeaux’?

That would probably be the best alternative if making it contingent on Germany receiving/rejecting that offer is not possible/feasible.

It would require three different scripts, one for where Bordeaux is in Allied hands and Paris in Axis hands, the opposite, and one where both are in Allied hands.

So yes, that could be done.

If France doesn't control Paris in October they shouldn't get a bonus.

Why not? Russia gets a bonus even if Moscow has fallen, and France fights on if Paris is lost. The event is about France holding on and continuing the fight. Idk why it should be contingent on Paris. If an allied player manages to survive until October, I think a reward is in order.

I do agree with it probably being smaller if Paris was lost. So maybe something similar to the way the Russian bonus works, where the morale improvement depends on which cities are held.

So if France holds Paris and Bordeaux, bonus is 2500 as now.
If Paris, not Bordeaux, bonus is 2k. If the opposite, bonus is 1250. Or something like that. Though it makes things too complicated maybe.

Paris is key in France in general. Bordeaux is a back water.

what a nonsense. France surrendered after moving their capital from Paris to... guess where? Bordeaux... If France for some reason does not surrender after Paris falls, then it makes sense they'll be willing to fight on from Bordeaux. Without this change, it's actually not that good to have France surive that long for several reasons (no bombers for Britain, no convoy from the US, no extra mpp for US etc etc)

French morale is garbage and should remain so.
Their soldiers were given to booze, political division, & pathetic leadership.
French had more tanks, plenty of troops, time for fixed emplacements.
Would good did that do.
It would take French leaders a week, just to forward a memo about ordering potatoes.
The publics perception was so tainted due to WW1, as were the Buntas.
Difference is, Nazis did something about.

Paris, Bordeaux, Nice, Normandy, whatever.
You can take the Capital out of Paris, but you can't take the Paris out of a depressed lost military.
Many of the French, were welcoming to their new visitors.
Europe is just that way, they'll follow whatever flag is flown.
There's always exceptions, but the rule is the rule.
No different in 2025.
Slaps issued: 16 - Patton, Dana White, Batman, Samson. Medals/Salutes given: 6, warnings received: 11, suspensions served: 4, riots: 2.

Better question, when does the capital switch from Bordeaux, back to Paris, once the Germans occupy the City of Light?

I believe so yes, we made some changes a while back so that previous capitals are considered and will return to those when available again.

Not sure if WAD, but pretty sure Bordeaux stays the capital of France for Axis if France falls after Bordeaux became capital. Paris becomes just an industrial center, not even an alternate capital. And if the Allies liberate Bordeaux in that case, then France is immediately liberated and they get full supply without needing to capture Paris first.

If the Allies recapture Paris, then it does become the capital again.

Yes, that makes a big difference and the Axis player has to avoid that the capital moves to Boredeaux

Apologies, this was what was intended, it will become the capital again once it is available, e.g. liberated or recaptured by the Allies.

Why does Bordeaux stay the capital for Axis though?
