Bugs? BoB 1940 campaign 1.06.83HFX1

Post by Klahn »

145 Sq (Hurricane I) Is commanded by F/L Adrian Hope Boyd right from the start, even though there is an S/L in the roster. (At one point, Hope Boyd was the acting commander of the unit, so this may be intentional.) But the problem is that Mr. Boyd has a Leadership and Inspiration rating of 0/0, causing this unit's morale to immediately tank. It's morale can not be recovered even if the unit takes a vacation in Scotland.

The Replacements screen shows 3 columns. Production, Pool, and Net. The Net column appears to be Pool - Production. For example:

Spitfire IA
Production = 42
Pool = 106
Net = 64

The math holds true for all aircraft types.

According to the "whatsnew" document that shows patch changes, the "Net" is supposed to be showing the net change in the pool over time. In other words, it should be Production - Losses (+ pool gains due to unit type changes and foreign deliveries?) It's definitely not doing this.

Thanks to everyone who has done so much work on this game. It's awesome!

Hi,
Hmm, my F/L Boyd starts out with the proper stats for experience and command so I'm not sure what is happening there. Was he wounded and later returned to command? then that is a bug. Let me know.

The purpose of the replacement screen is to give the player an idea at-a-glance if his losses are outpacing production for any airframe, i.e. are your replacements going straight from the factory to the groups and not the pool. It also provides insight for the defender if he is over or under producing anything such that he needs to retool some factories.

With the ability to swap out plane types (which sends the old type back to it's replacement pool) the math starts to get wonky if you want to also inject combat losses into the mix. It took me a while to wrap my head around this when I was scoping out the usefulness of this feature.

I just started a new campaign. I immediately checked Hope Boyd, and he's 0/0. I'm going to assume I have something corrupted and will try wiping out everything and installing from scratch when I get a chance.

As far as the second issue, the problem I have is that the "net" number is not indicating losses for me. The net number falls every turn based on the number of aircraft I've produced. My understanding of the "net" number is it should increase as I build aircraft, and fall as I lose them.

But I'll do the full reinstall and let you know what happens.

Thanks for the response!

EDIT: changed use to lose

Did a full reinstall and have the same problem.

Method was:
Use Windows 11 uninstaller to remove EDBTR.
Manually delete the entire Matrix Games folder from C:
Download EDBTR from Matrix.
Download EDBTR patch from Matrix.
Download HFX from your link.
Install EDBTR.
Install EDBTR patch.
Copy over BTR executable using the HFX executable.
Set up dxwnd.

I tried both the 1 month and the full Eagle Day campaign. Adrian Hope Boyd has 0/0 Leadership / Inspiration in both of them.

I've attached a screenie.

I've also attached a save. This is the Eagle Day full campaign saved immediately after starting it.

Let me know if I can provide any more information.

Looking at this again you are right, there is a bug in the data, setting Boyd's stats to 0. I'll see if it's not too late to get this into the patch, otherwise I can post the new data as a hotfix. The problem with that is that you will need to start a new game. (I was looking at the group stats, sorry).

You can track losses from the "list units" menus. And losses are replaced from either the pool or directly from the factories, so the replacement screen is taking into account losses already.

Thanks for looking into this for me. I really appreciate the help. I wasn't going to start into the game seriously until after the patch anyway.
