Artillery and actual unit composition

Post by Cpl GAC »

I'm having a hard time understanding why artillery's defense is as good as its attack.

On the steppe it should be an artillery regiment's worst nightmare being assaulted by a tank brigade. I'm not sure 4:1 odds with shock represents that engagement.

Also, although the pieces show as men or tanks or guns, is it calculated as they fight more like the actual unit composition with its organic organic guns and artillery (as pictured);

Am I overthinking it?

Hi, the unit's ground defense is usually 1. The Artillery attack value is not the same as the defense value.
An Artillery can defend a friendly unit with its attack value (i.e. it's firing at the attackers).
But when it's attacked itself (by ground or air), it's defense value is not as good as its attack.

Example - here it says I have 7:1 odds

After battle it says I had 3:1

Shouldnt it have been 4:1 and then three shock as stated in the first picture? Why did the defense go from 1 to 7.4?

Ah, the perils of Fog Of War.

After looking at the game file, I see that that "artillery" unit is not actually an artillery unit at all, but an AT unit.
Fog Of War and low intel has resulted in a mis-identification of the unit. This only happens when there's low intel on the unit - which is the case here as there are not any unit values shown for that unit.

Cheers,
Brian
