Carrier Aircraft Question

Post by illialid »

I had 2 CVs (Yorktown & Hornet) complete an update in PH . Upon completion they both had substantially lower levels of available fighters (4 of 36). How to I replenish the fighters to the expected level? I've reviewed what I can in the forums, but must be missing something fundamental.

Thanks

If you're in 42,there aren't many aircraft in the pool. But you can add aircraft by clicking on the arrows next to the pool numbers on the air unit screen. I'd give you a screenshot but I'm away from the computer....GP

What type of fighters were they? In February 1942 the US stops producing the F4F-3 and you have to switch to the F4F-4s which might be in short supply until production numbers build up. A screenshot would help.

This is the exact issue. I need to upgrade to F4F-4, which also has a pool of "0".

Thanks for the information.

I have a screenshot, but need to read up on how to post it.

Yeah, the F4F-4 Wildcat starts producing in March 1942 at 45 units a month. So it takes a few game weeks to "stock up" enough to completely fill out a carrier air wing.

Based on a review of air units, all of the F4F-4s were allocated to land based units. It is late July 1942 in the game, so it looks like the carries will not be going anywhere for a bit.

Thanks again.

You do have the ability to "downgrade" any land-based naval or marine fighter units to F4F-3s or F2A Buffalos to free up some F4F-4s for the pool.

If you desire to have more fighters on your carriers, you do have options. You can either move the land based but carrier capable fighter units with carrier capable aircraft onto the aircraft carriers OR DOWNGRADE THE LAND BASED FIGHTER UNITS TO FREE UP THE AIRCRAFT! I would do the latter but you can remove some bombers and put some more fighters onto an aircraft carriers. But be aware that you will be short on aircraft and have to consider everyone precious.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing! :o

In game options, I would turn off automatic air and ground replacements. In a game that has already started, I don't think you will be able to turn that off....GP

Four possible options.

Your best option is to turn off replacements to land base units. This can be done at any time.
If this isn't enough you can also withdraw units. E.g. Those in the US. Any ready ac will be sent to the pool witht he unit returning in 60 days. Only works for non restricted units.
Change aircraft model for something you do have, Player Def Upgrades permitting.
Use land based units in there stead.
