Exchange files question

Post by Rebel Yell »

Would there be any way for exchange files to save by default as <titan name>.xch? I enjoy adding some of the titans from here to my database, but since they are all along the lines of 1.xch, 2.xch, etc, unless I manually rename them, they will copy over other files in the xch folder. The problem comes if I add some files, but can't play right away to remember which ones I still need to import. If I d/l any other xch files, I might copy over one before I import it.

Now I know that once I have already imported them, I don't lose the ability to use the designs, but they are no longer in the import section. Since I play this at my office and home, I typically email myself the squad and titan folders, each day, so everything is the "same" on both.

Anyway, just a thought to keep from missing out on any designs you want to add.

By the way, as Sleeping Dragon said, making 'em is almost as much fun as tearing 'em up. SD, your designs are great. Keep posting your thoughts and revised zips for what we aspiring engineers feebly attempt.

Since a single exchange file can hold any number of titans it is not possible.

Just realize I can build a real stinker too. Check the database under heavies... Stonewall. ICK!!! I'm ashamed it carred over to WS! Looked good on paper.. Hugely defensive titan, small weapons, kill with long range cannon-based called shots. Nope..... Suckarama. I get disabled or killed in this thing about every other time I take it out. I think I got lucky the few times I play tested it.

I doubt ANYONE has been glad to play this titan. Sorry all you guys who play over the net, I know you cuss me everytime you randomly get one of these :)

Have not been in one of those yet. Good to know you managed one less-than-optimal design.

If there were any serious fluff to this game, maybe the Stonewall would be manufactured by the French. (apologies to any French forum members)

sort of confused

Post by william19k »

Hi,

I'm new here but have lurked a bit and i have a question about importing the xch files. I have downloaded a few titans and put them into the folder and everything but i noticed that not every one is showing up in the import list. I think it is because i am overwriting some of the files but i sort of thought based on what i saw earlier in this thread that they only added to the file not completely rewrote it am i wrong here? for example i DL a light titan 1.xch and then a different light titan 1.xch again so it overwrites the first one...does that mean i will only see the 2nd one in the import list?

Also I tried to rename some of the files so they wouldnt overwrite the others but the game only recognizes 1-5 .xch files correct?

finally and i think this may be a bug but i am not sure, I downloaded one of the wraith titans floating around here and renamed it a.xch so i wouldnt overwrite another version of the wraith i had. Since i wasnt having any luck using letters instead of 1-5 as a prefix to xch I changed it to 5.xch and imported it...now i know that it imported it into the assalt titan class list even though it is only 69.some odd tons. I tried to delete it but it said it had not been saved. So i saved it and it put it in the proper class but it still showed as being in the assalt class. Even when i deleted it after saving it it only deleted it from the light class and never the assalt, so basically i was stuck with it in the assalt class list.
I am not very computer savvy so i just totally uninstalled and reinstalled the game to fix it right but there probably would be an easier way to remove a titan accidently imported into the wrong weight class.

Sorry this is so long but I am sort of new to message boards in general and I have very little skills.

Great game by the way, I hope to post more in other forums, and will try to be a little less rambling.

basically, you should be managing your Titans from the factory database, not the xchange folder... :p

1. There can be only one one xch file for each weight class at a time. This file can hold any number of titans. If you plan to import titans from multiple 3.xch files you have to copy -> import -> copy -> import.

2. NEVER rename game files if you are not absolutely sure what you are doing. I don't call renaming a file and getting strange game results a bug. Nor a feature so Marga might look into the topic.

Thanks Larkin,

Thats what i needed to know. I wasnt really meaning to call it a bug since it was something i did, but then I wanted to at least let someone know it had happened so that other newbies like me didnt make the same mistake. And if they did I wanted to see if there was a less drastic fix then the one I did ie. uninstalling and reinstalling. I never meant to rename any files that CAME with the game...just ones i got from other players here in the forums. I hope I am not in trouble or anything, plus i was trying to make something work that i didnt know would never work which is why I came here to ask for clarification.

I am very happy with the game and have no complaints at all. I probably wont even patch it since there is only one or two things I have seen discussed here that sounded like I wanted them in my game.

Thanks again for the great game and all of you guy's total support here in the forums.
