Suggestions to Hubert and Bill (counter attacks)

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Suggestions to Hubert and Bill (counter attacks)

Post by welk »

Reading the forum SC, I noticed some critics about :

- lack of stacking
- lack of reaction of adjacent units when a unit is attacked

I think the apparent lack of stacking in game is not a problem, because the actual sytem allows units to move, attack, and again move to let place other units to do also attacks, etc : it's a very intéressant system and it give approx the same result as stacking (without complexity of stacking)

Concerning lack of reaction of adjacent units : I think the problem could be solved by a simple and basic way (and that's the object of my suggestion)

What I propose is that :

1/ When a side A attack one unit of the side B, all units of side A that are adjacent the both to attacked unit and attacking unit have à probability (%) to intervene in the combat.

2/The conditions of this "intervention" are:
- a random % (may be calibrated)
- a minimum strengh level of concerned units
- a minimum supply level of concerned units
- no any move of the concerned units in their precedent turn

3/ The effect of this "intervention" could be :
- Limitation of losses of attacked unit (example : - 10 to 30 %
- Increasing losses of attacking units (example : + 10% to 30%)

These "counter attack intervention" of adjacent units could be implementad as simple option (may be set "on/off" by player), and player could also set in editor the % of random intervention chance + the % random of effects ofthe intervention

By this simple and practical way, we could have exactly the same situation than if SC had stacking.
And I suppose it would be not complicated for Hubert to do that : it would work approximatively like aerian interception, but only in adjacent hex in place of "interception range"

I think stacking in PC games is not necessarty THE solution, and the "no stacking" in SC is probably one of the reasons for what the AI of Ubert is so good. Forget stacking and keep the good AI.
