Bad Titans?

Post by Sleeping_Dragon »

Just want some people's thoughts...

In the standard WS titan database are there any titans that stand out as just being really bad? (assuming the titan is used in the general role it was designed for) And to the people who play a lot of net games, any titan that no matter what the opponent has you feel extremely disadvantaged?

The Grim Reaper. Very weak armor for an assault, and hardly any range. Any assault with CC weapons is silly in my book, and this one's the worst. An opponent with any kind of range will make swiss cheese out of it long before it can fight back with any real effect. I wouldn't wish the Grim Reaper on my worst enemy...actually, I would, since I'd win. :D
We sometimes catch a window
A glimpse of what's beyond
Was it just imagination
Stringing us along?
More things than are dreamed about
Unseen and unexplained
We suspend our disbelief
And we are entertained

Pike, as far as that goes. Simply can not do enough damage to be more of an irritant. Plus, since you usually only see it with rookie and green Jocks, tends to miss more than hit (or worse hit FRIENDS).

Duelist. This one is kind of a mixed bag. Given enough cover, in a one on one duel, it can hold its own. However, it is next to useless if used in a squad. The lack of a Battle computer means that a lock on to an opponent can take 15 to 20 seconds unless your ECM skill is high. Combine that with relatively thin armor, means that the Titan is left virtually defenseless for unaccceptably long periods of time if facing multiple opponenets. The Swift Death simply outclasses it, hands down.

Revolver Two AC 4's, and a medium Laser. Outclassed damage wise by almost every other Titan out there, including most recon Titans.

I don't like xchange files much. But here they are.
The patch will probably have the revised database.

Thanks!
And VERY nice redesign calls for the Duellist. That chassis will make a big difference to lower level jocks.

The vibaclaws on the grim reaper or cool too, potentionally useful for internals, if not as much damage.

Yep, the much better handling mod makes it so much more stable. Jumping is safer too.
The shield was dead weight anyway, the engine couldn't take it. I won't mention the heat reg ;)

The Vibras are just better against heavily armored titans, cause they'll chew you up from within much faster than having to go through all that thick hide. This titan is still "good" for ambushes - like in mission maps :D maybe I can get the time to make one of those.
(this titan went through *heavy* redesigning ever since v1.3 or so, the original designer had some strange ideas about titan design :) )

Why don't you like xchange ? I'm not sure how to distribute the revised database with a patch as it would overwrite any custom database.

Heh. It is a very handy feature, don't get me wrong. I just like to build them from scratch. I have my own unique way of building titans.
About distribution, yep, that's a problem. But maybe people could be warned to export their custom designs, and then import them after installing the patch.
