Fading reports and better use of cover.

Post by Muletears »

Not sure if this practical or generally desirable but would it be possible in AA:HttR to see unit reports fading (going increasingly translucent until they disappear) as they go stale? Presently in AA (unless theres something I'm missing) it's very hard to assess at a glance the age of contacts.

Also wondered if there could be some way to order forces to favour good cover when setting up a defense. Again perhaps theres something I'm missing but presently I find myself frequently forced to tweak defensive positions.

In HTTR we have introduced intel filters. By simply hitting the "I" key you change the type of intel report displayed on the map - from all to recent ( last hour ) to current ( last few minutes ). Filtered out reports are still displayed but only with a black frame.

Done for HTTR.

Ask and you shall receive. :D

Ahaa you will be enjoying the filters in HttR then. As HttR will contain unit filters, one of them is an intelligence filter.
The player can choose between current, recent, and all the intelligence reports (including the old).

To help the units to deploy in favourable terrain I play with the frontage, depth and formation of the units. That will do the job for me most of the time.
Btw the code/AI for this in HttR has also been rewritten :)

[ooh someone beat me :D ]

It's quite fascinating when someone opens up a thread concerning a feature of the game I rarely make use of. Because I play the game in fairly long sessions (often 3-4 hours at a time) I usually base my intel on enemy troops on my own eyes - if I've had no contact with a reported unit for some time and it's not firing I assume it's probably not there. As regards defensive positioning - I judge the terrain and then set up accordingly taking into account any objective in the area. But then that's the beauty of AA, there really isn't any one way of playing to achieve victory :).
Thankyou for using the World Wide Web. British designed, given freely to the World.

The reports change colour as they get older, but it takes quite a while to occur and is more obvious on the Allied counters (except Polish ones) than on the German ones.
