Is it possible to read ship project data from a .DWDesigns file?

Post by RikiGamez »

Hello, is it possible to read ship project data from a .DWDesigns file? Or maybe from another location?

I’ll explain what I mean: DW2 is an ambitious strategy game, and since it’s strategic, decisions are made based on data. In the game, I lack tools to compare things (e.g., ship projects), so I would like to transfer the data to a separate spreadsheet where it’s easy to sort, filter, etc. — which gives a huge advantage for making proper decisions.

For example, I have two ship projects, escort-railgun and escort-missile (as saved in the game). Is it possible — aside from manually copying from a screenshot — to extract data from the game so I can get values like Attack Strength 10.1, Defence Strength 3.1, or a list of resources used for that project? Maybe there’s a mod that can extract this data?

Check out my cheat sheet in my signature. I have already extracted most data from the game into excel (also open source formats are provided). The only missing data are from some events here and there, which are very tedious for me to do.

The data set is not yet updated to the latest Mercantile update, but it should be sufficient for 90% of the game.

I was thinking of including a tool for people to build their ships in the excel workbook and see/compare values more easily, but I haven't gotten around to that yet.
