Firstly and foremost I wish to again thank Simovitch and all the others who continue to keep this game alive and improving: outstanding work! I finished my last game as Axis vs the computer in the long campaign under the last version of the game (including the hotfix). It finished in Jun 44 with Axis victory the final score being 1/0/16. More info on production and losses available if you wish. I have now started an Axis long campaign under the the new version and my observations to date are as follows (current date 5/10/43 - score 1/1/10;
- Allied AI is greatly improved and providing an interesting challenge. Heavies are hitting shallow targets in Belgium, Holland and France with first deeper raid to Motzen today. Mediums hitting aflds, radars and some towns, 1E Tac hitting aflds and Radars. Bomber Command making multi prong raids which is great!
Bomber command seem to be on steroids and are raiding almost non stop and as in the last game keeping the allied score high.
- Potential issues/concerns;
- Night fighting is still a tragic waste of time and effort from the Axis point of view. Intercepts are very few and far between and the Allied bombers generally get more sightings than the Axis night fighters! Generally, between flak and fighters I will get 4-8 bombers and lose 3-4 acft in landing crashes. The only time I have got between 20 and 30 bombers was the two times they raided Berlin and Hamburg (lots of flak and more time to follow the bomber stream). Better radars make no discernible difference (even in last game the SSN 20 was no better than the flensburg). Just build 6 x Ju88 Nftrs and slowly turn all Nftr squadrons into JU 88's as they have the best firepower and range, and get retro-fitted with better radars anyway. Turn the rest of the factories into research and better acft.
- Flak seems to be a little less effective especially against Typhoons (noting they were renowned for being tough) and Bomber command. Despite dozens of flak hits on the acft very few seem to crash anymore.
- A major concern and possible bug seems to be in the intercept routine and targeting. Once the first acft in an attack hits a target then most of the interceptors follow that target and ignore the main target. Example: in the most recent strike by 8th AF I massed over 400 German acft to attack a B17F formation of 100+ acft. I was at their height of higher and after assigning the attack I checked and saw 392 acft assigned to intercept the raid. After wandering along beside them for about 5 minutes a ME109 G6 unit attacked and shot down one B17 and damaged three for four of heirs being damaged. Over the next two minutes I noticed no attack but all my acft were chasing the three damaged B17s and ignoring the main target. I confirmed this by looking at the interceptors and noting 306 axis acft chasing the 3 damaged B17s. This has occurred several times now and is an issue I have not seen before. Interested if anyone else is seeing this???
Hopefully this information is of use and happy to provide more info as required. Again many thanks for the efforts to improve the game.
Sincerely, AKL
