How did you manage this bug? Diacritical marks

Post by Joseignacio »

Hello,

I think I read in one of the posts (that I cannot find now) that some people had the same problem as I am having now.

I don't know why, where the Düsseldorf MIL used to be called "Düsseldorf" , from a time the game is naming it "D sseldorf ", so I pay for it but it never comes to the deploy box. It seems it has to do with some inadverted Windows or maybe Notepad ++ settings in a different language (spanish) having messed with it- no action on my part.

What should I do now with this and other possible cases, edit the pertinent line to "Düsseldorf " or "Dusseldorf " or what? How did people solve it?

Haven't run into the problem but I can see it happening if a file were edited in Notepad, as explained below in my experiment.

I opened the fast start Global War file with Notepad and searched for "dorf". Second hit down showed the city name with the second character represented by a box with a question mark in it. This is because Notepad defaults to using ANSI (or at least mine did and maybe this is what happened to you.) When I opened the same file in Word and searched, the second hit down was Düsseldorf, because Word recognized the encoding was UTF-8.

So my suggestion is to open your game file in Notepad but then save it using UTF-8 encoding, but if you already tried changing it before this, you might have to open the fast start game file file and find and copy the name from there to overwrite just that name in your game file, and then save your game file with UTF-8 encoding. Reopen it in Notepad and check if "Düsseldorf" is there.

There have been a few other names like this that have come up and it's too bad the force pools depend on those exact names to find the units as opposed to using an index number instead.

Thanks a lot. That is a great help.

As I said, I had read some of this before, and now that I recall, I set Notepad++ to UTF-8, but I had an update and it probably f*cked it back to ANSI .

I will revert it
