Operation Absolute Resolve : Insertion & Extraction in Caracas

Post by Correcaminos »

EDITED: Mission Bugs Fixed Thanks @Nikel ¡¡

Hi everyone,

First off, I'm not entirely sure if this is the usual place to post these kinds of scenarios or if there is a specific section for them. Please let me know if I should post this elsewhere.

Inspired by the hypothetical events of yesterday, I’ve put together a focused scenario centered on a high-stakes extraction mission in Venezuela.

Mission Profile: You are in command of a detachment on the USS Iwo Jima. Your objective is to insert a Delta Force team into Fuerte Tiuna using MH-47G Chinooks.

The Challenge:

SEAD is mandatory: You need to clear a corridor through a very dense IADS (S-300VM, Buk-M2E, and Su-30MK2s).

The Timer: The catch is that once you land at the LZ, you must hold position for 15 minutes to let the team work before extracting.

Technical Note: I’ve implemented some Lua scripts to handle the 15-minute timer, the "safe return" logic, and the scoring. They seem to work well, but I’m sure the Lua wizards here could probably optimize the triggers further.

Any feedback, bug reports, or ideas to improve the realism are more than welcome. If anyone suggests an improvement, it would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't uploaded this to the Steam Workshop yet because I wanted to share it here first and let you guys take a look at it, if you're up for it.

Thank you. Perfect timing! :)

The new scenarios are usually posted in this subforum for testing.

https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewforum.php?f=10233

Some problems noticed:

1. The Black Hawks were present on the raid escorting the Chinooks, however in my first try they are still readying when the Chinooks are already back with Maduro.

2. The drone RQ-170 is absent and apparently played some important role.

https://www.twz.com/air/rq-170-sentinel ... re-mission

3. Some events that adjudicate points repeat several times.

5. The scenario has briefing but no description.

6. In the briefing it is said:
4. ASSETS

Transport: 1x MH-47G Chinook (Extortion 1).

Escort/SEAD: 2x EA-18G Growler / F-35C Lightning II.

However you have many more assets available for the mission.

First 5 points fixed, thanks Nikel. I'm working on the rest now. Keep in mind my eyes were barely open last night, and this is the first mission I've ever dared to publish

UPDATE v1.2

I have uploaded a new version with the following fixes:

FIXED SCORING LOOP: The event gave points repeatedly. I added a SetEvent(isActive=false) line to the Lua script to ensure the score and victory messages only trigger once.

ASSETS READY: MH-60M Black Hawks are now set to "Ready Immediately" so they can escort the package from minute zero.

NEW ASSET: Added an airborne RQ-170 Sentinel to provide the necessary ISR/Stealth support mentioned in real-world reports.

BRIEFING UPDATE: Updated the asset list to reflect the full air wing available to the player.

CLEANUP: I performed a factory reset on the scoring log and graph. The scenario now starts with a clean slate (Score: 0).

Thanks for the new version.

The insertion success is not working now.

Have you changed it?

Forgot to mention that when you are happy with the final result/testing of the scenario, you may upload it to this thread so that it may be included in the next version of the Community scenario pack.

I am not entirely sure why the event was disabled; I’ve noticed some strange behavior with event activation/deactivation when reloading scenarios but I can't pinpoint the cause. I have verified and re-enabled it now.

I hope this version (v1.3) finally runs smoothly. I am uploading it here and also to the Community Scenario Pack thread as you suggested. Thanks for the guidance!

For some reason I cannot explain (because EMCON doctrine both general and at unit level is all passive), as soon as Venezuelan airplanes are airborne following firing of event E_scramble Su30, the support ships of Group 762, open fire radars on and engage the enemy planes with RIMs (174 and or 156A)

Why is this happening?

Self-defense? Perhaps it is related with this bug, or the same. Too many missiles are launched.

If you change the postures to unfriendly, it will not happen until you start the attack and Venezuela is considered hostile.

I will report it in the tech forum. Ships should not turn on radars in the first place based on the imposed EMCON. A temp fix is to put Air targets on HOLD (instead of default tight)

OK, thanks.

Correcaminos, just tested v1.3

Now I have noticed that the event when the Chinook is recovered safely happens just after the package is ready for extraction, but it should happen when the helo arrives to the Iwo Jima?
01-03-2026 07:34: Score changed from 0 to 250. Reason: Objective Kingmaker Secured. Package ready for extraction.

01-03-2026 07:34: Score changed from 250 to 315. Reason: Chinook recovered safely. Mission Success.

Also you start the scenario with 1 Delta Recon Team as a loss. I think this happens since the first version.

Version 1.4 - Change Log
NEW FEATURES & GAMEPLAY TWEAKS:

"Hardcore" Extraction Logic: Implemented an immediate "Mission Failure" condition if the operational MH-47G Chinook (Extortion 1) is shot down.

Asset Cleanup: Removed all reserve/static Chinook units from the USS Iwo Jima.

Reasoning: This prevents potential conflicts with the "Return to Base" triggers, ensuring the mission completes correctly only when the active unit returns.

Briefing Update: Clarified the "Single Airframe" constraint and added specific instructions regarding the 15-minute hold timer required at the LZ.

FIXES:

Scoring: Adjusted scoring triggers to enforce the "No Fail" condition on the transport asset.

General Cleanup: Cleared persistent internal logs (losses/expenditures) from previous builds via Lua script to ensure a clean evaluation report.

v1.4 tested. Now the events fire properly.

Mission accomplished and no losses and the result is a minor victory, 515 points.

Triumph is 800 points, what is needed to get to 800 points?

A little detail, the drone has no base to return.

I do not know if you want to add more details to the scenario, but this and other assets were launched and returned to Roosevelt Roads airfield in Puerto Rico.

Let's fix this quickly and add a few 'Christmas presents' now that the mission is working properly :D

CHANGELOG v1.5 - "Living World & Logistics Update"
This major update focuses on bringing the environment to life, improving realistic logistics, and adjusting final scoring.

GAMEPLAY & SCORING

Victory Adjustment: The "Triumph" threshold has been lowered from 800 to 500 points. A clean mission execution (no losses and objectives complete) now guarantees the maximum rating.

LOGISTICS & SUPPORT (US)

New Operating Base: Activated NAS Roosevelt Roads (Puerto Rico) as a rear logistics hub.

New Air Assets:

2x KC-135R Stratotanker (Callsign: CAMEL) for aerial refueling support north of the AO.

1x P-8A Poseidon (Callsign: NEPTUNE) armed with Harpoons and Torpedoes for maritime patrol and ASW.

4x MH-60T Jayhawk (Callsign: RESCUE) deployed to Puerto Rico for SAR and patrol.

HOSTILE FORCES (VENEZUELA)

Submarine Threat: Added S-31 Sábalo (Type 209) submarine patrolling interdiction zones.

Surface Force: Deployed an active Surface Action Group near La Guaira.

ENVIRONMENT & AMBIENCE (NEUTRAL/CIVIL)

Civilian Air Traffic: Added civilian flights over the Caracas valley to complicate target identification and increase friendly fire risk.

Infrastructure: Added Simón Bolívar Intl. Airport (Maiquetía) as the base for neutral traffic.

Marine Life & Naval Traffic: Saturated the maritime area with merchant/fishing traffic and biological contacts (whales/fish schools) to challenge sonar operators.

Intel: Briefing updated with new threats, support assets, and ROE restrictions (Mandatory Positive Identification).

OK, you can get a triumph now with the 515 points, v1.5.

Noticed that the Iwo Jima and her zone is moving NW, this did not happen before. How to avoid it?

The Black Hawks now have fuel problems and the protection to the Chinook is brief.

v1.6 "Hotfix" - Navigation & Logistics Patch

Navigation Fix (USS Iwo Jima): Removed the erroneous course that caused the battle group to drift Northwest. The Iwo Jima now maintains its assigned static position.

New Asset (MC-130J Commando II): Added to the Puerto Rico base (Roosevelt Roads) to solve the helicopter fuel issue.

Reason: Jet tankers (KC-135/Stingray) fly too fast for the Black Hawks to connect. The MC-130J allows for low-speed aerial refueling, critical for Special Ops.

Briefing: Updated with a tactical note suggesting moving the MC-130J closer to the coast to support the insertion.

@Nikel: Huge thanks for the support and for having such sharp eyes with the testing! ;)

Well, the fuel problem of the BHs was related with the moving Iwo Jima. Still the Commando II is a good addition because apparently they were present.

There is still something wrong with the Iwo Jima zone in v1.6.

When you load the scenario the naval group is centered in the zone, however when you start it, the zone changes and the IJ is not centered. This was not happening in v1.4

This result in that when the Chinook lands in the ship with Maduro, the last event will not fire because the helo has not entered the zone.

The issue is that the zone is anchored to the Naval Group instead of the USS Iwo Jima itself. I will fix it as soon as possible; it is a simple fix.

I've implemented several improvements to the scenario V1.7.

I fixed the reference point movement for the return route and completely overhauled the aesthetics of both the briefing and the description to make them much more immersive. Hope you guys enjoy it!

v1.7 tested.

Congrats for the new description/briefing! Are you sure this is your first scenario? :)

A typo in the description. It happened the night of the Jan 3. The time in the scenario is correct.
Date/Time: Jan 4, 2026 / 05:00 Zulu

In the briefing, it is said:
SUCCESS CONDITION: The MH-47G must safely land on the USS Iwo Jima.

However this has not changed, it is the Chinook returning to the Iwo Jima zone what fires the success event, not the landing. I think the successful landing is more realistic.
