Bombard fleet torpedoes own ship in port?

Post by LuciusSulla »

I'm not sure if this is what happened, but my republican fleet of Libertad and Almirante Ferrandiz bombarded the nationalist LCU in Gijon. The city of Gijon itself is republican controlled and there are republican ships in the port.

The combat report shows that one republican LB in the port was sunk by torpedoes. The bombarding fleet also expended torpedoes in the next turn.

Combat report below. Save in the prior turn attached.

-------------------------------------
TF 1 bombarding at 78, 52 Gijon - 10:00

Republican Fleet:
LB Fernando: Torpedo Hits: 3, and is sunk

Defender losses: 109 Casualties
Squads lost: 1 disabled, 4 destroyed
Vehicles lost: 15 disabled, 15 destroyed
Guns lost: 1 disabled, 0 destroyed
Units Destroyed: 0

LB Fernando hit by 533.4 Torpedo
LB Fernando hit by 533.4 Torpedo
LB Fernando hit by 533.4 Torpedo

Attacks on ports can have anchored ship return fire or get underway to return fire.
This includes use of torpedoes.

It looks like you didn't adjust the bombardment targeting. There is a toggle that adjusts the percentage of the bombardment between the port and LCUs. Someone with more experience will be able to say if you choose to bombard LCUs in a contested hex which base you own will actually bombard the enemy LCUs or your own. It is obvious from your experience that your bombardment fleet was set to have at least some of the guns targeting the port - and since there are no enemy ships in that port, the bombardment hit your own ships. Talk about (un)friendly fire!

Friendly fire is always more accurate than enemy fire.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

It was AF 0%, Port 0%, LCU 100%

But using torpedoes when there is no enemy ship around but only friendly unarmed barge in the port?

Friendly fire confirmed. I think I got this avoided in the future. In the 2nd update.
Too late for 1st update.
