Questions on supply, artillery et al

Korsun Pocket is a the second game using the award winning SSG Decisive Battles game engine. Korsun Pocket recreates the desperate German attempt to escape encirclement on the Russian Front early in 1944. The battle is a tense and exciting struggle, with neither side having a decisive advantage, as the Russians struggle to form the pocket, then try to resist successive German rescue efforts and last ditch attempts at breakout.

Questions on supply, artillery et al

Post by coralsaw »

Having read the manual and searched the forum, I'm still a bit unclear on a few rules issues and would appreciate your help. Here we go: :)

1. Will an arty unit be eligible to participate in defence if it has just performed a combat action in the friendly turn (eg. enhanced movement or offensive artillery barrage)?

2. In "Last stand at Korsun" scenario, the supply dump at Korsun, if inspected, has a "+7" inscribed on it. Does it mean that after 7 turns it will cease to be a suppy point and all units in the pocket will be out of supply?

3. Say that there are 2 defending units in a stack, a 1-step one and a 4-step one. If the stack gets attacked and loses 2 steps will each one lose 1 step, starting with the 4-step one?

4. Same stack as above, if it gets attacked and loses 1 step, resulting in 3-step and 1-step units, and in the same turn gets attacked again and loses a further step, will the stronger unit take the hit again or will the next one (smaller) take the next hit?

5. Does interdiction work between the supply dump and the truck or between the truck and the unit to be supplied?

6. Will a supply dump supply a unit that's eg. in the next hex without any truck being on board at all?

7. Exactly how does "bleak" weather worsen spotting when "hidden units" are in effect?

Thanks in advance. :)

1. Yes
2. Yes - after it is cut off from edge of map supplys it will activate as a supply source and will act for 7 turns (as I understand it from your description)
3. Yes
4. For each individual combat results are taken from the unit with the most steps.
5. Both
6. Yes, supply dumps/sources have their own 'burst' radius in which they can supply units around them without the need of a supply truck.
7. I dont think it does in this version of the game. I have made suggestions around this for inclussion in Battles in Normandy, but they are still on the drawing board I think.

Whoosh!
Isn't that bizarre?

Thanks Rob, much appreciated. :)

Re/ "Last stand at Korsun scenario", I thought this was the case until I found out that even after the turn where the pocketed dump was supposed to cease supplying, pressing "s" still showed all pocket territory as green (supplied) and all pocketed units still in the green (not grey). There is no other supply dump in the pocket and no other way supply could have gotten through otherwise.

Could it be a bug? It's very easy to replicate, just run the game in hotseat for 8-9 turns without any action until the dump disappears.
