[RESOLVED] Aircraft not taking on fuel from tankers

Post by lousyadmins »

I just had to uninstall and reinstall CMO to get to 1.08.1674. After the update, I opened one of my older scenarios and rebuilt it to the latest database. After that, I noticed that aircraft that are low on fuel will make contact with a tanker, but only for a second, and then try to go on their way.

I've checked all of the settings I can find. Tanking is allowed including tankers refueling tankers, but I haven't been able to resolve it. The scenario had KC-10A tankers, I thought that might be it, since they were/will be retired before this scenario takes place. I added KC-135's and KC-46's, but they didn't refuel aircraft either.

I've attached a copy. It's busy, but you should be able to locate any of the three tanker types with aircraft close by.

What am I missing?

Thanks,

Thanks for posting the save file. Consider upgrading to the latest beta v1.09 Build 1776 -

That might be the issue. My experience has been that refueling works better in Build 1776.

I did take a peek at the scenario. As you mentioned it's busy. There is an awful lot going on. I looked at it from the US/UK side based on the tanker types you mentioned. Couple things I noticed; there are no refueling missions setup and tankers are in flights with multiple aircraft. Seems very challenging to manage that way but, everybody plays different. I typically setup refueling missions that support other specific missions.

Anyway, I tried to reproduce the issue you reported so I found Eyes #2 (E-3G) and manually ordered it to refuel from Flight 4324 (6 x KC-46A, Esso #7 to #12). Eyes #2 successfully refueled. I'm running Build 1776 so that might be the issue. I can't say for sure but, upgrading to the Build 1776 might correct the problem you are having.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have found AAR with 1776 much more reliable. Simplification of the mission(s) is key. You can't just throw AAR assets at mission packages and then go hands-off. It takes calculating runs with ranges, loadouts, altitudes, speeds, target types and fuel loads. The more precise your own calculations, the more likely you'll have a successful outcome. AAR is not drag and drop in real-life nor in CMO. You have to have small flights, a good plan, a lot of AAR assets, and a healthy reserve.

I'll take a quick look at the scenario. But if its too large, I'll skip it. I don't mind helping, but won't wreck the rest of Saturday sorting through flights.

Which side is the AAR issue showing up on? The default side is Russian. I'm assuming thats not the side you are looking at. I'm running it from 1776.

edit...found some tankers. Were there any missions set up? I'm not sure what you were trying to do. Was your refueling all manual?

edit 2: Ran it on single flame. Order a couple of groups of F-35s to refuel with a group of 4 tankers with no issues. Ordered an E-3 to refuel with a separate set of tankers with no issues. One thing I almost never do is use multiple tankers in groups. It creates some chaos with refueling queues. I create single AAR missions and then let the AI decide who goes where from mission set ups.

Well, I tried updating to the Public Beta 1776, but ran into the issue that CMO hangs when trying to load a scenario. I've restored back and I'm just going to deal with the issue until the next official release. You can mark this as resolved.
