I'm likely missing something obvious. How to pick a side for PBEM?

War in Spain 1936-39 is the first in a new wargame series, using a new Land-Sea-Air engine inspired by War in the Pacific - Admiral’s Edition. Gameplay and realism are improved by TRUE AI and a detailed Logistics systems. A hyper detailed OOB reaches down to battalion and company level. A beautiful, hand drawn, 5 nautical mile per hex map massively increases player immersion.

I may be missing something brutally obvious, but how do you pick a side as you start a PBEM match? It is not as intuitive as I would have imagined it would be, or I'm daft, or both. - Peter Robbins (Armchair Dragoons)

Flip a coin, cut a deck of cards, toss a die . . .

Or just answer an opponent who already wants a certain side and you take the other side.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing! :o

From what I can tell, it always defaults to Nationalist for the initiator of the PBEM. I assume there is no way to change that.

The turns develop simultaneously so it doesnt matter who begins. But in PBEM for convenience of the system, the "first" player should be the nationalist one. Check the PBEM section, but on short, if the Republican player begins the game he just sends a blank turn without moves, just the turn saved as it begins, and then the nationalist makes it turn fully...... the only difference is who of the 2 players will put the preferences and adv.preferences for the game

Thank you very much for confirming that.

Also, in case it helps anyone else, here is a pic showing the menu for choosing to either add to the turn or process it to the next turn.

See the two options on the right-hand side when you use PBEM then click Load Game.
