Off the Rails

Post by Q-Ball »

...literally. I had an Armored Train move into the woods, I am certain because it was set to "Follow" another unit....and it did. I might use the same method to get it out of there

But obviously Armored Trains should not be driving off the rails......

I have seen trains leave the rails before without crashing but that was a long time ago . . .

Is there a save from before the unit moved into the woods ?
They cannot do this by design. I wonder if the unit moved 1st and then took replacements.
Moving off track is allowed if no RR cars are left.

I'm sorry, I do not have a save

However, I am confident that it had railcars before moving.....I make sure the Armored Trains are at close to full strength before committing them

I will try to move it from the woods by "Following" a unit in the hex, and see if that works

The autosaves are 50+ if you have those.

Zip it and attach it to a DM but not to me. Alessandro is the person who can look into this situation.

No problem, but talk to me like I'm an idiot....where can I find the save files?

I think I found the problem......that specific unit, No.6 Blindados, is classified in error as a CAVALRY unit, not an armored unit

Going back through the saves, it did have Railcars when it moved off the rails....so taking replacements in the woods is not the problem

I can attach saves, but if you look at the Scenario Data, that unit needs to be corrected

Let me know if you need more

I think that you found the save files in the save folder.

If you ever get a "Crash" that is not a CTD, that would be in the Reports folder.

If you have the correct setting to create units, you can change the classification from Cavalry to armour.

This is an HQ unit but the way to do it is the same. You click on the "Show TOE" to get to the next screen to select changing things for the unit.

Here is where you can change the type of unit to what you want it to be. You can also change devices to other devices that are not otherwise able to be allowed in that slot. Feel free to play with things after you have a save to go back to if you don't like it.

"Cavalry" and "Armor" are actually interchanged by the game itself. Armor was a modern form of Cavalry.
So if such a unit is mostly "organic" the game will tell it is Cavalry, while if it has mostly AFV it will show up as Armor unit.

If you can find the very save of the turn where the unit does move into the woods I can track why it was able to do so.
