Displaying All of Your Militia Columns

Post by potski »

This is generally about the Display All LCU's window displayed by clicking the flag icon on the top menu bar. But I think aspects apply to other interfaces.

FILTER:
  • The RGT type units are described in the manual as a special type of HQ. They command a division, brigade, regiment or militia column. They do not appear in the filtered list for HQ Units.
  • The RGT type units appear as Infantry
  • There is an Engineer filter, this lists ENGs (Engineer Ship, naval support), AVs (Aviation Support) and ENGc (Engineer Combat, generally components of divisions, brigades, regments or columns)
  • ENGc (Engineer Combat) also appear in the list when you filter Infantry only
GROUPING:
  • On the Engineer filtered list when Grouping by Type, by clicking once or twice in Type to display it alphabetically, the list cannot tell that AVs is alphabetically before ENGc
  • On the Infantry filtered list when Grouping by Type, the list seems unable to distinguish at all between RGT and INF types, they are not grouped together into an alphabetic list, ENGc Which shouldn't be in this list is grouped and displayed first, then INF and RGT are all intermixed.
The result of this is that it is difficult to see a list of the RGT units as a proxy for the combat groups that are attached to the HQs.

The HQs which had a list of all of the units attached to them in WITP:AE no longer have that feature.

ATTACHED TO:
  • If you select an LCU component, such as an INF or ENGc you can use Attach To and link it to a higher level command HQ, such as the HQs in the filtered listed above when you select HQ. But you can NOT use Attach To to link a low-level LCU to an RGT. The association between an INF and an RGT is made in the scenario files where they are defined as part of the same combat unit. This association is sufficient to ensure that the components of a combat unit all get the benefits of the HQ.
  • A number of LCUs in the Scenario files have wrongly had their Attach To value set as their own RGT, when the player cannot set this in the interface. It's inconsistent that not all LCUs are set like this and inconsistent with what the Manual says about it.
  • In the All LCUs list, you cannot easily use Attached To to order/group the units by their HQ
A general failure of many of these types of list in the game is no search/filter option based on some text we enter, so some more flexible way of selecting by drop-down or similar what is shown and what is not. But a combination of these issues above is that it is remarkably difficult just to see a list of all of your militia columns or similar. Ideally there should be:
  • An RGT filter along the top of the window, separately displaying RGT "special" HQs from Infantry, Armor etc. or
  • RGTs should appear under the HQ Units filter. I think this would probably be the easiest for you to implement, but the separate RGT filter would be best for the player
  • If RGTs appear in the Infantry filter list they should be separated by the INF type when grouping by Type
  • ENGc should appear in the Engineer filter list only
  • The Attached To in the Scenario files should be removed for all non-RGT type components
  • All high level HQs should have a button to display "Attached Units" which should then display for all LCUs those that are explicitly attached to that HQ, and for all Air and Naval HQs all those within their range. To note for Air and Naval HQs we have no way to visibly see on the map nor in the Task Force or Air Group windows, whether a unit is within the range of an HQ. We had explicit information in the WITP:AE TF window to show which HQ it was attached to (and could change it, though I am not advocating for that, just to be able to see confirmation that a TF is within the range of an HQ)

The HQs are the higher level HQs, the regimental and brigade HQs are not so they are considered infantry.

The "attach to " function is for the higher level HQs and their operational areas.

So after the last upgrade all divisional headquarters are also infantry...
So they are almost all infantry...especially in the first year of the war.
Corps headquarters (and a few higher ones) are created later and in very limited numbers.
I have nothing to do with these, just to be clear. :(
