Pajarero Militia Column

Post by potski »

The Tutorial Scenario files (and probably the others, I have not checked), start with a unit:

Pajarero Columna de Milicia

I don't see a column with that name in any reference material I have access to (English-only). Luis Jiménez Pajarero was the Military advisor for the Red and Black Column. Allied to the CNT it wore their red and black colours:

Columna Roja y Negra

It's commander, is given in Wikipedia as José García Pradas, not Pajarero, who is listed as the Politcal Advisor, though it's overall political leader was Yague. This column took part in the Battle of Mallorca. However, it is not so much the naming of the column overall that is a potential issue, but:

The Pajarero Columna de Milicia has an INF component "10/Pajanero..." and "Pajan.Compania de Intendencia" both look like typos and should use the first R in Pajarero.

In addition, within the Sindicate d.T.M. Columna de Milicia, we have "Pajarero Agrupacion de Mil."

This Sindicate column is, I think, also part of the CNT and based on the name of the Maritime(?) Workers, ie. Seamen. It's commander is given in the game as Yague. So I'm wondering if there is confusion between these two columns that were maybe often grouped together in many sources as Columna Roja y Negra led by Yague, when you have chosen to represent them as two Columns. That's OK, it just seems odd that we have a Pajarero Agrupacion in the Sindicate Column rather than the Pajarero Column. It looks like an error.

And it looks strange that we are missing the very famous Roja y Negra name. You might choose to rename the Pajarero Column as the Roja y Negra Columna de Milicia to maintain that historical link to the CNT.

There was someone who played WITP:AE and he had some unique spellings in his AAR.

Of course, he was an Italian lawyer so English is not his first language. Even in the English language, there are differences in spelling the exact same word.

First of all, I would like to thank you for your interest and knowledge.

I was in the Republican columns for almost two years...
I searched everything possible and collected as much information as possible.
My colleague Piteas also started a topic on the el capitan forum.
I would honestly say that we are about 80%-90% accurate.
This war is shrouded in quite a big veil of mystery.
So any clarification and help is welcome.

I was not sure about the Sindicate column.
I did not find any continuation of it (unlike the other columns you mentioned).
So I had it disbanded after the Balearic campaign ended (plus a week or so). That should solve the duplication.

I found VK group "Guerra Civil Española / Граждан. война в Испании" - https://vk.com/gce1936
There is the article in Russian about Columna Roja y Negra - https://vk.com/wall-6823135_9780
Should be translatable, I guess.

There was a Pajarero column.
Luis Jimenez Pajarero, an army captain and anarchist (a very rare combination), did have his own militia with which he landed on the Cabrera and conquered this small island. He then joined Bayo's expedition and, upon returning from Mallorca, formed the Rojo y Negro Column with the maritime transport Workers' Union column (Sindicato de T.M. in game) and other remnants from Mallorca, which went to the Aragon front. It departed Barcelona on September 16th.
It was commanded by Captain Luis Jiménez Pajarero and the political delegate García Prades.
It deployed throughout the municipalities of Banastás, Loprozano, and Igriés. Some groups also fought in Siétamo, Angüés, Vicién, and Azaila.
It was composed of members of the CNT, with limited participation from members of the FAI, the PSUC, and the UGT.
A large part of its members came from the city and province of Barcelona. Another significant contingent of men consisted of volunteers from Andalusia and Aragon. Little participation of international combatants is documented. As for women, they had a fairly significant presence in the column. The column in total numbered around 1,500 militiamen.
Upon militarization, the Rojo y Negro Brigade gave rise to the formation of the 127th Mixed Brigade of the Republican Army,
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
