WIS Player Strategy Guide

War in Spain 1936-39 is the first in a new wargame series, using a new Land-Sea-Air engine inspired by War in the Pacific - Admiral’s Edition. Gameplay and realism are improved by TRUE AI and a detailed Logistics systems. A hyper detailed OOB reaches down to battalion and company level. A beautiful, hand drawn, 5 nautical mile per hex map massively increases player immersion.

WIS Player Strategy Guide

Post by mplambo47 »

Hi All,
I created a player Strategy guide for myself to aid in learning the game and being able to together a reasonably cohesive attack plan as the Republic. A huge inspiration for me not only purchasing WIS but really diving is has been Mark over at Cannae Gaming. https://www.youtube.com/@cannaewargaming4815. He has a fantastic tutorial series going on which I highly recommend. Additionally, I've used some of his content in my guide as well as bits from the WIS manual and Osprey Publishing's "The Spanish Civil War 1936-1939 (2) Republican Forces". https://www.ospreypublishing.com/us/spa ... 782007852/
Kindle had a sale fyi.
All pulled together and assisted by Microsoft CoPilot AI.

So what this guide is, is basically a way for me to remember vital information and figure out what the heck I'm doing and going to do.
It is:
* an attempt at a formalized document
* Republican Army ONLY focus
* Intention of starting at turn 1 of the campaign.
* Very "Me-centric"

What it isnt:
* Perfect
* Intended to cover everything or be a re-write in any way of the main game Manual
* Exhaustive.

I hope you find some use for it. I can make the Word version available to anyone who wants to adapt it, improve it or use it for creating something new. I've not a forums participator and this is the first time I've ever contributed but I've been inspired by the return of this team to make this great game on a subject I'm embarrassed to say I knew little about as a degreed historian and pursuer of all things WWII. Thank you to the devs and testers for creating this and using the WITP: AE and WPO engines that I've absolutely fallen for.
At this time, I'm not really taking requests for improvements or additions to the doc. I have another thing in the works that I'll post here also. If you think you can do more with this, I just ask you give me initial credit and keep the chain of credit going to those that inspired me to do this.
Enjoy and I hope it helps in some way.

Barry

If you don't find the guide to your liking or useful I'm thinking this will be. I really wanted into the DB for WIS so I could pre-plan my first several turns and get a grip on what kind of forces I have access to. I lack the ability to "hack" anything so using OCR capabilities via different tools (mostly "Snipping Tool") I took screenshots of the Status Report and all the DB screens I figured were the most useful.
All independent zero digits are replaced with a hyphen as I found it all easier to read.
I didn't refine the formatting a lot as I wanted a more draft / template feel for the upload.
I poured over the results several times to ensure accuracy so we should be good.
I didn't compare the withdrawing troops in turn one with those present in the LCU tabs
If you find it useful and want to share, just credit me please. This took a lot of manual effort.
I haven't worked out how to maintain it going forward as turns play out. That will reveal itself during play I'm sure.
File is Excel converted to Googlesheets. IF there's any issue opening / dowloading let me know.

I updated to version 1.1 here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... ue&sd=true

Changes:

Supply Reports Tab - Locations are alphabetized
Bases and Airfields tabs now have Zones assigned to them by base or airfield location. None completely verified.
Adjusted the Panes Freeze.

I'll be looking at Squaring away LCU information next.

Enjoy!

Rookie posting mistake <durf>. So WIS DB_1.1 is set to "Viewer" on the google drive. If not familiar with how to create your own copy you just need to:
Go to File > make a copy and you'll have your own useable version.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Thanks,

Barry
