Glasgow-Berwick Intercept - 1946

Post by MarineAres »

This is an entirely ahistorical, impossible scenario. The Berwick is a British-designed raider heavy cruiser with 10-inch guns; the Glasgow is a British-designed light cruiser with 6-inch autoloaders, this "universe's" version of the potential Minotaur design. They are both British because I'm lazy and I like the names, and my initial thought was for the raider then the thought of it fighting a Minotaur was cool. So, here we are. I suppose you could imagine that UK has had some kind of schism leading to civil war post-WW2, maybe over scrapping battleships or other nightmares.

Anyway, the idea is that the Berwick is a raider and the Glasgows are the only ones available to intercept. 3 light cruisers versus a quite-heavy cruiser, who shall win? I don't know, you can play both sides. In testing (spoilers maybe), PC vs PC, the Berwick will always win almost unscathed having sunk at least one enemy. PC Berwick vs player, the CLs win pretty easily. PC Glasgows vs Player Berwick (I tried this only once), no one sunk but the Berwick was menaced after an unfortunate nighttime continuation of the battle and will be out of whatever war is going on for quite a while.

I have set this up very lazily, both sets of ships are heading towards each other at battle start in the North Sea between the UK and Denmark, I tried the English Channel but the land of course caused problems with the AI and I found open ocean was the best way to get them fighting consistently and mostly to the end, AI vs AI anyhow.
