Italian Replacements

War in Spain 1936-39 is the first in a new wargame series, using a new Land-Sea-Air engine inspired by War in the Pacific - Admiral’s Edition. Gameplay and realism are improved by TRUE AI and a detailed Logistics systems. A hyper detailed OOB reaches down to battalion and company level. A beautiful, hand drawn, 5 nautical mile per hex map massively increases player immersion.

Italian Replacements

Post by Q-Ball »

Can Italian units receive Italian replacements in Spain? It doesn't seem like you can, unless there is some kind of lend lease workaround like there is with airplanes?

And if there is, what is that?

Below is a unit in Seville; plenty of supplies in the hex, and many of the Italian elements have plenty of devices in the pool. But it's not taking replacements. Similar units in Naples are taking replacements.

I notice that the items marked with an (L), which are Spanish devices, ARE taking replacements

What's the scoop on this?

Can you give me the Save on this ?
Several possible solutions.
For example the game rules for replacement might set to some kind of "shipping" and that would mean Italian Devices need to be shipped from Naples to Spain.
This is done by a RSV type LCU
I need to examine the case for circumstances to find out the answer.

Attached Save, thank you!

Also, please see my post on the CTV; I feel pretty strongly that players shouldn't have to ship items manually from Naples/Germany/USSR, they should appear.

Historically, the Republic didn't intercept a single shipment, and there isn't a documented attack against a German or Italian merchant ship

Attacks on Soviet ships were mostly submarines

I made a test SCN.
And yes. Italian and German units do not normally replenish on Spanish territory.

But there is a solution, it works like this:
Just occupy a city on Spanish territory with Italian soldiers,
It will become Italian territory. Move enough supplies using the ON button.
Allow Italian units to replenish ON. And the next day they will be replenished (i.e. only with national devices, which is all infantry for example).

We can say that this is relatively logical and correct.
CTV established a relatively large network of warehouses and replenishment centers in Spain. This also later allowed him to relatively quickly create "Italian" units from Spanish conscripts.

Does the city the Italian Occupy have to be Republican? In other words, do they have to TAKE the city?

I don't think you can switch a Nationalist city to Italian, unless I am missing something

Yes, the Italians must occupy (conquer) a Republican city, thereby creating Italian territory and allowing for replenishment.

You sure this is the save ? The Frecce Nere are in a different hex
EDIT: I think I found out. The rule for replacements is "pool", means replacements are to be shipped from the mainland to the units as industry output points or finished devices.
This is why your Italian units do not draw replacements.
Under the selected game rule your only way to get those devices into units is to build a RSV at Naples and ship those to the frontline.

Use the rule "Supply" if you wish units to be able to draw replacements regardless of location. This is then teleporting devices into units by use of supply.

I will add to my previous information.
My test was done with the Logistic model OFF.
(and it works as I write, i.e. it is necessary to occupy the Italian city)

If the Logistic model is ON, it works exactly as the programmer writes.

Yes, we had the game on SUPPLY....don't want to create so many RSV units, there's enough clicking as it is

That means you need an Italian Town....which can be done, but that feels like a workaround with the code. I think Italians should be able to take replacements anywhere in Spain.

The "issue" is in the game rule of replacements. It is set to "pool" in that game - which is a realistic shipping model. No teleporting of Italian Devices from Italy to Spain.
"Supply" would be the rule to allow replacement to go anywhere by spending supply.
Having the Base be Italian does not help. In fact, when doing a change to Italian Base it loses the connected status and the unit does not even get lend leased (L) devices replaced, as this base has no access to the pool whatsoever after giving it to Italy.

The realistic replacement model needs to access the nation pool. If you have no access to the pool from the Base in use for the LCU, then the only way is to create an RSV unit at a Base that is connected to the Italian pool. I recommend to use the "Full List" and from there the text on the lower right corner to auto-build a respective RSV unit at the nearest connected Italian Base. Then move the RSV near the target units for to replace stuff. Under realistic replacement rules this is the only way to get Italian Devices into Spain.

The logistics model is not related and has no impact on replacements.
