Has anyone ever had a Night time Naval atack work?

Post by Brady »

I have been expermenting in a head to head game trying to creat a situation whear a Betty, Nell, Emily or Mavis would actualy cunduct a night time Naval atack.

I have a large base Size 6 with like 200 points for avation suport and around 60 planes present, I parked a enemy fleat in the same hex and still no night time naval atack, I even have plenty of daylight recon going on to suport the intel aspect and I even did an atack run during dalight with a unit bases at the same base to see if that would work, then I tryed using a cap at night to see if they would go then...Nothing

Any Ideas hear folk's?

Night Cat Attack

Post by mogami »

Hi, I had 2 PBY groups attack Japanese CV at night. One of those massive IJN CV TF was sitting 1 hex from Noumea and pounding the place. Noumea was closed so I used 2 PBY Sqd at the next base to the north set to night attack. 2 Japanese CV were hit. The next turn the Japanese CV left the area.

How hight do you set the Catalina to perform attacks. I often put them on naval search (at night) and i never had a single attack

Hi First change them to night. Then set them to Naval Attack with 10-20 percent left on patrol.

I have used the PBY's on Naval attack as well, by switching to Night Flights, then selecting Naval attack. However, as with most flights, to do this it is vastly preferable to have a high exp + morale. I have used them with great affect against transports ina "hot seat" game.

OK thank you. Maybe it is because i set the wrong patrol percentage (either 100% or 0% i do not remember).
I set them at 1000 ft. Is it right or shoud i put them on 100 ft? :)

Didn't think it was possible to set naval search for a sqd on night attacks? When I select night operations, it defaults to a 100% setting that can't be altered... Have I missed something?

I think only the American planes will launch night naval attacks because of the way the turn sequence works. In order for a strike to be launched the target nees to be spotted. Unfortunately, the only spotting that happens at night are the coast watchers, who are near omniscient. Once they spot then there is a chance of Allied planes launching. Since the Japanese don't have coast watchers they don't get a chance to have their planes launch.

Has anyone ever seen a Japanese plane launch a night naval strike? (not a port attack).

It seems IJN planes also launch night time naval attack.
