Ypres DLC MP match coming soon

Post by OldCrowBalthazor »

Ypres DLC for SC-WW1 coming July 14. Bill Runacre one of the Fury Software developers and I are going to play the 2nd Battle of Ypres. His Great Granddad, Lance-Sgt D.W. Belcher V.C. fought at 2nd Ypres in 1915. His image shown here was on a cigarette pack card. Note the Victoria Cross.
I wasn't in the Beta so being going into this fresh as the Germans. The first massed use of gas was used here. This series will start going up quickly after release and while we are playing. Announcement vid and possible schedule will follow soon.
May none of them be forgotten!

Individual history is always great. Thanks for the the background and the game. I like WW'1 and the best game of Strategic Command while still in Battlefront I did play, and already purchased new DLC. But not sure about command capacity and radious of generals in these small scenarious. In ACW it was more clear.

Many do say SC WW1 is the best Great War game out there.

To see units that are within range right click on the HQ -> Set Mode -> Auto-Assist or Manual. Units that can be attached are highlighted.
Max HQ Attachments = 6
Max HQ Attachment Range = 8
All countries except Portugal. They are 5 & 5.

Thanks, yes perhaps some notification events in scenario start, as no research. And while at it railroad lines map mode just like supply lines would be good. It could benefit Marco Polo scenario and ACW also. I know already where railroads in WW1 for Ottomans without looking at map.

What exactly do you mean "Do not work with Australian and US youtubers promoting your games"?
Why?
Explain your self.
Also, what the hell does Field of Glory Kingdoms or Timur aka Timurlane of Samarkhand have do do with your statement either?

Do not take it personally but time to time I write, this is pro American&British forum. Red line for me Norman Invasion but no Beyazid War of Ottomans with Timur. :) This is not developer choice only. For SC can you tell Bill opponent asking for 2 turns if he can build units if it is WAD? Only reinforcemens I can tell for both sides in Ypes first battle.

None of what you just wrote makes any sense at all, especially this 'Pro American & British' forum bit. Also earlier you wrote Australian and now substituted British for the latter.
What are you actually saying here?

Also, why bring up gripes about AEGODs Field of Glory-Kingdoms here in this SC forum?
Go to Slitherine's Field of Glory-Kingdoms site and forum and gripe to Pocus there about your concerns.

OldCrowBalthazor, I already did that and critized Slitherine choice of youtubers promoting their games. It is not about nationality only about interest in history. First language English shouldn't be priority. Field of glory Kingdoms is prime example. Look at those youtube videos no clue about time period they are promoting. Their decision of course. For SC It is natural for devs answer to topics to native speakers first especially smaller companies, Your English is cool southern accent I think. :)

And AGEOD decision to go only for Norman invasion -even in later expansion- is not about Pocus, you didn't catch that. Phillippe did go for Taiping rebellion in different firm. Let's see it in here. If small is enough than EU'4 wouldn't be a global firm making games for only Anglo&Saxons.

First, what I am doing is on my own and a hobby.
In no way has Matrix, Sltherine, or Fury Software approached me to do any promotional work at at all.
All my output is purely by my own volition. Period.

If anything, I do this work purely out of respect to these creators of these fantastic games. That also includes a number of modders in addition to the game developers.

I do get your point that a lot of YouTubers that get pre-release keys to promote games commonly do not have a deep understanding of history or even geography. Makes me cringe at times, to be honest. Possibly thats another reason I have been doing my vids, to teach about geography and some history through narrative and game play.

Side note. I don't have an 'American Southern Accent'.
No far from it. Its basically standard American with a West Coast dialect and a Pacific Northwest and Alaska over current. ;)

Ep 3 "Blood, Mud, and Steel": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTseBO8fkA8&t=48s

This video, Strategic Command WW1 2nd Battle of Ypres Ep 3, features the creator OldCrowBalthazor playing the Strategic Command: World War I game against developer Bill Runacre. Set on April 26, 1915, this episode, titled "Blood, Mud, and Fire," focuses on the tactical challenges of the Western Front.

Key takeaways from the video:

Tactical Gameplay: The episode highlights the challenges of static front warfare, the importance of artillery management, and the impact of weather conditions like mud (0:54, 2:31) on unit movement and combat effectiveness. The creator discusses managing his HQs (3:43, 4:41) and the necessity of leaving room for retreat (1:01).

Military Strategy: Much of the session involves intense attrition, with Balthazor assessing his division losses (2:14) and attempting to break enemy zones of control (7:31). There is a heavy emphasis on balancing shell usage (6:00, 26:11) and timing the introduction of new reinforcements (1:26, 3:31, 25:16).

Game Mechanics: The creator explains aspects of the game design, including the importance of experience pips for generals (12:09, 27:48), the difficulty of replacing units in the face of the enemy (22:37), and the significance of morale (27:06).

Atmosphere: The video captures the "slow grind" of World War I, with the narrator reflecting on the nature of the conflict, the quality of troops, and the necessity of using every tactical advantage available to win (30:26).

The video serves as both a tactical guide for players of the Battles for Ypres DLC and a demonstration of the game's mechanics in a competitive multiplayer setting.

This video follows OldCrowBalthazor as he plays as Germany against Bill Runacre (a developer at Fury Software) in the Second Battle of Ypres campaign for the Strategic Command: World War I game. The episode, titled "The Dead Can Dance," covers the turn dated April 28, 1915.

Key gameplay moments and strategy discussed:

Tactical Challenges: Balthazor discusses the difficulty of navigating the muddy terrain and the challenge of managing his forces in the Ypres salient (0:41, 5:40).

Artillery and Supplies: There is significant focus on managing artillery shells and the importance of using divisions effectively over regiments. He notes the impact of rain on movement and supply logistics (1:05, 4:23, 7:00).

Reinforcements: The player analyzes upcoming reinforcements and evaluates the effectiveness of his current HQ units, including the experience gained by the Duke of Albrecht (4:43, 28:55).

Frontline Movement: The player maneuvers his units, attempting to break the enemy line while avoiding catastrophic losses. He expresses frustration with the entrenchments and the high cost of direct assaults (13:14, 20:10, 40:10).

Victory Conditions: Balthazor acknowledges that achieving even a minor victory is unlikely unless he captures Ypres (30:00).

The video concludes with a reflection on the "meticulous" and "muddy hell" of the tactical and operational scenario, highlighting the intensity of the trench warfare depicted in the game (40:56).

Ep 5 "Infernal Garden": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNQgXD_lL70&t=299s

This video features a multiplayer match of the Strategic Command: World War I Battles for Ypres DLC, specifically the Second Battle of Ypres scenario. The creator, OldCrowBalthazor, plays as Germany against the developer, Bill Runacre, who commands the Entente forces.

Key Highlights:
Tactical Challenges: Throughout the episode (0:34), the creator emphasizes the difficulty of advancing on Ypres (or Wipers), noting the intense attrition and the necessity of managing supply lines and entrenchment effectively.

Operational Pacing: The gameplay focuses on the slow, grinding nature of World War I warfare. The creator frequently discusses the need for "operational pauses" to replenish artillery shells and consolidate positions before pushing forward (24:28, 39:43).

Strategic Maneuvering: There is significant focus on positioning divisions, utilizing Duke Albrecht as a key leader, and the frustration of being unable to dig in certain terrain types while under heavy fire from the Entente (5:02, 13:37).

Game Realism: The creator praises the design by Robert Carver and Bill Runacre for capturing the grim, methodical nature of the conflict, including the historically accurate inclusion of chemical gas attacks (30:26, 40:02).
