edited scenarios and future updates

Post by jawi »

One more question regarding edited scenarios and future updates.

If I have edited a scenario (e.g., Campaign 1941) as follows:
- changed unit colors
(- changed turn limit to 249 turns)
...do I have to redo this every time the game updates to a new version if it is saved under the original name? Or, if I use a new scenario name, will the update simply not apply to it?

I seem to recall there being a distinction between scenario-specific data and general game data.

To put it another way:
What exactly can I change within a scenario without it being overwritten during a game update?

Up until now, it has always been very time-consuming to re-adjust unit colors (and turn limits/structures) for Campaign 1941 after a game update.
Or is there a way to copy a specific file containing this color information into the new update?

The map graphics mods have always remained unchanged during recent game updates.

I hope you understand what I mean. :)
Detailed answers are welcome.

rename scenario and save it. Everything vanilla will be overwritten during updates

Scenario specific data, like number of turns, or unit data (and assigned colors, AFAIK), will not be touched if you've renamed the scenario from the standard scenario names.
All understanding comes after the fact.

Ah, okay, I think I understand.

I can keep my modified unit colors in a scenario saved under a different name, but then I won't get the new features from the game update (I'll get the general updates, just not the ones specific to the scenario).
Or I save the modified unit colors under the scenario's original name, but in that case, they'll get overwritten by the original unit colors when the update happens.

So, I'm not entirely happy with either option.

Thanks anyway.
