[Q] Allocation of flights to targets within same strike mission

Post by Knightpawn »

A question to developers and to anyone that may know the answer

How does the game algorithm allocate flights to targets in the same strike mission? In this video (https://youtu.be/sstPHjPq7Kc?si=8bazHuN5G3y-NPLT) it sounds that if there are multiple flights each flight will engage a separate target in the mission (assuming there are multiple). Although this works most of the time, from my experience it is not always the case. I had in a game a case with 4 targets and 4x2 flights where the allocation made by the flight-plans was 3 flights to target 1, 1 to target 2 and none for targets 3 and 4.

So the question is towards which parameters the algorithm optimizes (assign as many separate targets as possible given sufficient number of mission flights, first allocate sufficient weapons as per WRA on a selected target and then distribute flights to next targets, other?)
And a corollary: if WRA says to allocate weapons from more than one planes so that it fills weapon Qty requirements, does this operate within units in a specific flight or does it spill over to other flights in the mission?

Thanks for anyone taking the time to answer this

I swear we get this question once a week...

I think as long as the targeted units are grouped, e.g. an air base, I don't think it matters what the flights official target is; WRA should determine which weapons get allocated to which targets. I could be wrong. If you absolutely want to guarantee a specific target is going to be hit, setup a strike mission with only that contact.
