MIG-3 ruins my day

Post by Tcao »

Learning the tutorial scenarios 2, road to Minsk .
The Mig-3 gave my day 1 strike force a bloody nose.
Just like one of the engagement here

There was another engagement I forgot to take a screenshot, that a group of Mig-3 shot down a couple BF-109 and JU-88 and lost only 1.

Any tips to fend off the Mig-3's interception? Change the ALT?

Stukas are very vulnerable on day 1.

When you are more experienced bomb all the fighter bases first on T1.
Molotov : This we did not deserve.

Foch : This is not peace. This is a 20 year armistice.

thank you,
yes, in a new try I manually assign airfield attack missions, focus on SOV fighter bases on D1. It is a much better result since I can bring overwhelming numbers to penetrate the PVO's Mig-3 defense.
Later I will add attack bomber base mission on D2, and change Luftwaffe's loadout.
I am slowly learning. :D

Fighters may be too high above the bombers with 9/10k and bombers at 5k.

ESCORT fly as high as they like from what I know.
Altitudes for fighters generally do not matter all that much besides a potential little bonus for higher flying fighters against lower flying fighters ('bounce'), a bonus I have not seen someone provide evidence or even a value about its effects and which in this case indicates it not being present or it being outclassed by RNG.
+some altitude related speeds may matter

At least in the Campaign you only have the serious bonuses to bombing airfields on Day 1 Week 1, 22nd June 41.
You can change the priority of an AD (like there is a section where you can change it from V-High to High to Low and so on. V-High goes first. This way you can make multiple runs on day one in a order you want (fighter bases first).

In your case the most likely reason is the numerical advantage of the Soviet planes...combined with a boat-load of RNG.
Besides this, mthe MiG-3 is the best Fighter the Soviets have (at least for the initial 2 years or so...maybe even overall...) in the game.
Due to The RNG you could see the same combat have a completely different outcome. You can not rly look at individual combats like this and draw conclusions from it.

My best guess is the fighter ratios being your issue.
