3.2 vs. 3.3

Post by eric_rocks »

I have never played WIR pbem games until recently, and I am playing my first two now. One is version 3.2 and one is version 3.3.

In the readme file for version 3.3, the only change listed is "The effects of blizzard on the axis in the first winter has been changed to make the shattering of axis units less automatic." However, comparing the Alt-R reports, I notice some large differences in the first Soviet turn. In version 3.2, my average rifle division experience is only 28%, while in version 3.3, it is 44%. Similarly, armor experience is 26% and 33%. Was this supposed to have changed between versions? I am not using Possum. Does anyone else notice this difference? Do I have bad files or something?

I am also curious about which versions people prefer to play. Given the greater experience the Russians apparently get in version 3.3, I like that version, but in our 3.3 game, I was able to shatter 5 Pzr Korps in the first three turns of the Blizzard, which is way off, in my opinion. True, they were not dug in, but still...

I have not yet played through a blizzard in 3.2. However, I have noticed a greater propensity for my units to shatter even when at high readiness. I think I remember reading about a bug that causes high readiness soviet units to shatter during the first few turns. Is this any different in 3.2 and 3.3? Also, my opponent's south front shattered on turn three of the game in version 3.2. He did not take much strength out of it either. Is this a bug that has been fixed in 3.3?

Thank you for helping me understand my favorite game better!

Eric
