Unlimited Ammo?

Post by Adamo »

This is probably a dumb question, but when playing scenarios with unlimited ammo, is it necessary to worry about having Ammo Dumps and Ammo trucks?

First, the only dumb question is the one that goes unasked. Second, no, if you play with unlimitted ammo, there is no need for ammo dumps or ammo trucks to supply your units, as they never run out of ammo. But then, neither does the enemy's ammo. You might add them to the enemy's force to have something kewl to kill, of to your's to have something to defend.

Hope that helps!

Don't use aircraft that carry bombs if you are playing with unlimited ammo because they all turn into B-17's
They struggled with a ferocity that was to be expected of brave men fighting with forlorn hope against an enemy who had the advantage of position......knowing that courage was the one thing that would save them.

Sometimes off-board artillery can loose it's ammo loadout from enemy counter-battery. This can occur even with the unlimited ammo option On.

I submit that it is much more fun to play with limited ammo ON. Just a suggestion...

I agree. Otherwise, it becomes just another arcade shoot-em-up. Good ammunition discipline can make all the difference, particularly in a long game.

It can really stink if the smoke clears and enemy infantry are swarming in front of your ISU-122, and YOU'RE OUT OF HE !!!!! All because you've been wasting it popping off at retreating crews. There's a challenge for you.

I agree that limited ammo ON makes for another dimension in the game. OTH, there are aspects that seem unrealistic as a result of this setting, particularly with artillery.

In many actual WWII battles, artillery should have in effect unlimited ammo, particularly with US / Allied units, where THOUSANDS of rounds were expended in very short periods and resupply was generally VERY good and very fast.

On the other hand, it was pretty easy for isolated infantry units to fire off all of their ammo in a very short time.

Try it both ways, this is a game after all.
