Anyone want to play a "timed" PBEM?

Anyone want to play a "timed" PBEM?

Post by Galka »

It appears that it can be done.

The game is set up like a normal PBEM game, except that it should be saved in a standard slot and not password protected. (this is only one step that requires some trust).

After the game is set up the first player selects 'online' game and the timer starts.

When the turn is complete the computer will attempt to become player 2. At this point the game is terminated ctl-alt-del and the "online game" save is sent to your opponent.

The opponent if they desire to observe the VCR playback should open the file within a PBEM game, and when wanting to play thier "timed" turn should then save and then restart the turn in a "timed" environment.

This does require a lot of trust, but it may be a way to simulate a real battlefield effect into a pbem game, instead of having time to think about all repercusions of each action.
"In light of my experience, I consider that your conclusion that the attacker needs a three to one superiority is under the mark, rather than over it. I would say that, for success, the attacker needs six to one or seven to one against a well-knit defence
