Sherman Sushi - Jess vs Bernie (USA/MC vs Japan 6/45)

Post by Bernie »

Sorry Jess, I only included one tiny bridge on this map. You'll have to park your Shermans someplace else. :D

Large jungle map, 8,300 points, 10% arty, 50 viz, 1 weather, 35 turns air drops OK, no C&C but all else is on.

Let's go Spam Can King! I have some surprises for ya!

Jess, the closest thing the Japanese had to spec ops troops was the militia squads. Is the armor on those Span Cans of yours really so thin you have to worry about a bunch of old men with bamboo spears? :D

You also realize, the no spec ops rule applies to your side as well. The first Ranger I see and I'm screaming "Foul!"

Turn 1 (Japan)

Turn 1 (Japan)

Okay, what idiot parked those POA tanks on my glider runway?

Sheesh!

I lost three squads of 2nd line infantry hitting those suckers, but it was fun watching them shoot at each other trying to get the squads. :)

An opening salvo of 150mm mortar rounds failed to hit anything useful, but the smoke rounds I dropped in did help with the landings.

20 gliders worth of 2nd line infantry are now behind enemy lines, although some had unfortunate landing experiences. I think my number of "effectives" back there, after this turn, might only be 15 squads. But they're a fun bunch, and they sure do enjoy shooting up the jeeps Jess left parked back there! Put those 50mm mortars to good use fellas! :D

I also parachuted in some "other" units... like engineers with mines and a couple dozen suicide AT squads. Jess is going to have to move out very quickly, or see his units slaughtered in their own backyards.

Turn 1 USA

Turn 1 USA

Knowing that Bernie San likes the back Door............

I was ready for him~ I had lots of fast movers parked in the rear
waiting for Bernies attempt at penetration

Many a Jap fell, and those left (that I can see) are hit with fast responce 81mm Morts. My long march to the east is hampered due to cleaning up my rear

But I feel good that I have the Japs under control and recon units moving all along my rear  spot little opposition.

My only loss this turn was another 30cal Jeep.

Hardly! :D

I just took out one of your Shermans from 20 hexes. What are you using for armor on those things, rice paper?

Oh, you're also down a jeep or two.

Turn 2 (Japan)

It's true, most of my air dropped forces have been lost. I should have waited a turn or two before sending them in. But, considering that all totalled they cost me under 700 points, and caused havok in your rear areas, I'd consider it a good investment.

On the front lines, one of my Type 5 tanks took out a Sherman with a direct front hit at 20 hexes. These babies are pretty neat. 75mm main gun, and a 37mm hull gun, plus a 7.7mm MG. All the fun of a Grant or Lee, but in a better package.

Hmmm... I nail a Sherman with a Japanese tank from a distance and suddenly it's taking a very long time to get the turn back.

Coincidence?

Jess
How many did I drop? Oh, I forget... Was it two companies...or three? And then there's the suicide squads... I know I stuffed the transports full of those... 15 per plane, isn't it?

Are there more coming? Gee, to paraphrase Clint Eastwood, "In all the excitement I lost count. But being that this is the Japanese Imperial Army, the most bloodthirsty army on the planet, the question is... Do you feel lucky?"

Well, do ya...sissy? :D

Turn 3 (Japan)

Divide, conquer and crush... that's my new motto. :)

Jess is suffering from a serious case of "hammer and anvil" with my troops playing both parts.

The two (or was it three) companies of infantry I dropped behind his lines in gliders are starting to make things hot for him. They've taken a toll on his fast movers and are great at spotting targets for my artillery.

Even the engineers I parachuted in are having fun, sowing mines with wild abandon, and destroying the odd jeep or scout car that comes along.

My suicide AT units are also in the fray, charging madly from the woods at anything they can fling themselves upon.

Speaking of artillery, Jess seems to have a good assortment of it. I've been subject to 155mm howitzers, 4.2 inch mortars and 81mm mortars. They have yet to actually hit anything worthwhile, but I have to wonder why US arty was so cheap and Japan arty so expensive. Ah well, it won't help him. My Ho-Ro's are zeroed in, and those 150mm shells hurt when they hit. BTW, who named these units anyway? Ho-Ro? It sounds like a bad Charlie Chan movie ("Ho-ro Mr. Jess! I have suplise for you!") And I won't even get into the name's of some of the other SPA's (yes I will... Ho-Ne Type I and Ho-Ne Type II... sounds like an OSHA designation for occupational injuries suffered by "working girls") and the ammo carriers...So-Da trucks? "Let me have a case of 7.7mm MG ammo, a dozen 50mm mortar rounds and a six pack of Mountain Dew!" I'll have to do some research on thes and find out what the names really were. :)
