Trying to understand how fighters set for CAP work

Post by WarPig »

I noticed that CAP works only when you launch an interdiction attack, but not during the attack phase. Is this the way it is supposed to be?

Insights appreciated.

Yes, if you want them during interdiction you have to set them to Escort. CAP fighters are better during the air attacks in your opponent's phase.

If the fighters are set for CAP, are they supposed to defend the units assigned to that HQ more effectively?
Or are they supposed to defend any attacks within their range?

They will defend all units in a 7 hex range during the opponent Air/Move phase. In the combat phase the air units assigned to a HQ will defend only the korps/armies attached to that HQ.

I think the Escort/CAP abilities were changed from the original rules. In the beginning the CAP feature gave you more planes to defend in the opponent phase but now the numbers of planes flying for defend (in Escort or CAP) are very similar.

However, always I set my fighters to CAP to the end of my phase

Will the fighters set as Escort defend only the units assigned to that HQ during the opponent's air/move phase?
Or will the fighters behave as CAP, i.e. defend within the 7 hex radious?

Thanks for your help.

The fighters, on Escort but also in CAP, will defend of any opponent air mission within the 7 hex, doesnt matter if the korps/army is attached to that HQ. Only in the combat phase ,the air units attached to a HQ will defend the units attached to that HQ.

Hope this helps
