Post by Brady »

I imagine their are a ton of new plane types in WiTP, when compared to UV, I was woundering if their are Various Kate, and Jill, Lorna, and Emily's equiped with Surface serch radar for ASW and Naval serch work.

Are you certain any of the Japanese single engined models carried naval (surface) search radar?

Airbore Radars

Post by mogami »

Hi, Japan had several airborne radars. For Single engine aircraft there were around 20 sets built and used after Oct 44 (Type N-6)

The most common airborne radar was the type H-6 with 2000 sets built. (beginning in Aug 42)
(H8K, G4M2, P1Y, J1N1-S/11, J1N1-Sa/11a) It was both air and surface search

I climb communications towers, mostly mono poles now for Cell Phone companies.
The little stick antennae are still called Yagi's (after an Early Japanese radar designer)

I knew about the multi-engined mounts. Mostly 200 cm, IIRC (it's been a while) and, again IIRC, one 120 cm set.

Another example, although a bit worse for the whear:), Note the yellow diagonal tail bar denoting the plane as radar equiped:

Its not until picture likes that....that you realize just how big those planes are

They look so tiny when put in games and settings where there is no frame of reference

Now I hvae read a couple of acounts of US subs having to dive from aircraft at night who aproached them in such a maner that they were certain they were radar equiped, I was woundering if in WiTP we will be able to asign Night time ASW patroles to these types of radar equiped planes some of which are show hear.

Hi all,

I think that I remember reading that Japanese ASW aircraft were equipped with
some sort of MAD device (i.e. device that would detect anomalies in magnetic
field) for detecting submarines...

The Q1W "Lorna" Had both an airborne radar set and MAD gear, as did late war B5N2 "Kate".

Sooooooooo, the big question(s) is:

Are these radar equiped varients modeled in WiTP?

Are the MAD set's modeled?

Can we conduct Night time ASW patroles in WiTP?

If a plane was produced in any kind of significant numbers, you can presume it will be included in the game.

If it isn't, just add it with the editor.

I recall reading in eiter(or both been a while since i read them) Thunder Bellow-The War Patrols of the USS Barb, and In Clear The Brige- The War Patroles of the USS Tang, whear at night on more than one ocahsion they were repatedly aproached by aircraft that vectored right at them, in condations that favored a night aproach for the sub, (no moon), their asumption was that they had been spoted by radar in the aircraft.
