THE PAW OF THE TIGER AT TANKHEAD'S SITE!!

Post by Tankhead »

Hello Everyone!

New scenario from Jim "Figmo" Faletti, The Paw Of The Tiger. You can find it at my Scenarios page. I thank you very much Figmo. Image Enjoy

THE PAW OF THE TIGER
'Squad Leader'Scenario
German defend vs Soviet Advance
South of Leningrad
January 12, 1943

Throughout the winter of '42-43, the Soviets launched repeated attacks to relieve the siege of Leningrad. The hardpressed Germans rebuffed one attack after another, but in so doing, their lines became progressively thinner. Finally, the Germans had to develop a trip wire defense of light local forces, backed by a "fire brigade" mobile force, which was quickly dispatched to the inevitable breakthrough sector. Such a fire brigade was 1st Company, Tiger Battalion 502, with ace tanker Cpt. Hans Bolter, who was called upon to halt a major Russian armored incursion by a full battalion of the 122nd Tank Brigade.

Aftermath: The Tigers and their MkIV escort arrived just in time to bolster the feeble infantry positions. Though heavily outnumbered, the combination of Tiger superiority and Bolter's superb gunnery carried the day, and the backbone of the Russian 122nd Tank Brigade was shattered.

Hey all.

FIGMO's got a classic just burning away in GEM land.

Just played PAW.(Actually I have been hogging it up for 5 days at
least).
It's located near Leningrad.
It has Tiger Tanks!!!
The scenario is well represented being
an update of the original Cross of Iron (Squad Leader) Game.

I URGE YOU TO REQUEST IT AS IT IS A CLASSIC.

I just can't stop playing these type of short tank battles (superior
position vs superior numbers).

While playing PAW sometimes I just couldn't wait for a commercial and just restarted.

The game brings together all the classic
tactical considerations facing a German tank commander.
--Stay on the heights, since 76mm guns will have a hard time
penetrating your armour.

--your LOS is extended, while your exposed tank surface areas
decrease if you remain back of the hill's edges.
--stay close to your infantry, since staying back from the edge does
restrict your LOS for close in targets
--keep the Russians at bay, by shuttling from one hot spot to the
other, but be warned if you trade in all your positional advantages and go to level ground to attack the RED ARMY Armor or try to face off in a close assault tank attack on the hill you will suffer grieviously.

Retreating to fight from some other hill top is not a loss unless of course we have to retake our lost hill right away.

possibilites abound and the game generally
tends to a draw for either human opponent.

This classic is a must play.
One Platoon with sufficient visibility can hold off a Company of Tanks--since KILL shots
against such favourably emplaced tanks require experience or RAMMING DISTANCE

Thanks Tankhead - I appreciate you posting it!! And thanks Bill and Mindspy - it was a fun SL scenario - I hope the conversion measures up!!

I use to try and win with the Russians in Squad Leader - and never could. Image It's not any easier now!!

It also helps you appreciate - as the Germans - a Tiger Tank on a hill with LOTS of Russian Tanks coming at you!! You may want to have Breakdowns off - if you lose one of those Tigers main guns to a breakdown - it's a very tuff day!! Image

Thanks Mech Engineer - I'm glad you enjoyed it. I get the feeling the "things went down hill from there" wasn't meant to be a pun!! Image
