Weather... or not.

Welcome to the new war raging across hundreds of light years at once, with mechanized Titans as the main fighting force.

Weather... or not.

Post by jzpops »

I was going to stick this in the "Things I'd like to see" thread... but that's gotten quite large.

So...

I'd like to see more weather effects in the game: rain, snow, and fog, for example. Not just for the restrictions on visibility, but also on titan maneuverability (slippery/muddy), heat dissipation, and effects on the different weapon ranges, accuracy, and damage. (Fog, for example, could make lasers next to useless; plasma cannons might have reduced damage; and visual ranges and scanners would be severely hampered.)

Lots of code, I know; but an option, I feel, that would be interesting in future releases or downloads.

There are environmental effects in the game. Wind, Heat, Cold, mud, water, acid, lava, quicksand, and more.

The one I'd have liked to see is related, but a little more environmental. When a lower-lying area of land is next to water, cannon fire into the water hex could cause flooding of the land over a short time .. to give swamp, perhaps.

ACs are not that powerful. And the times in question are like minutes, not hours. The map editor allows you to create these flooding though, like Marga did in his campaign.

The only weather-related effects right now are different wind speeds and direction change rates for different battlefield types, the heat mods for Polar and Core, and slower movement in snow and slippery ice in frozen water in Polar.

I'd thought about the timing; but the fun seemed worth more than the reality check. I'd not thought about the weapon damage too much, though; thanks for the comment. Which Marga camaign is that? (My teams aren't strong enough for many of the campaigns yet, so I've not been in many.)

Campaign 3, The Metaborator. Not going to tell which map, not to spoil the fun :)

Thanks. I'll get working on my team. I've seen some of the comments about the campaign; I'm looking forward to it.
