Probably a good marketing move for Matrix as a lot of those players have a strong interest in military history, but don't have a clue as to what a command perspective wargame is.

On the other side, that was one of the worst games I've ever played and it feels sort of "icky" to see Matrix's name associated with it. I know David Heath likes the game, and no offense to those of you who do like it, I just found it absolutely horrid.

Hi Shaun I have been playing pretty much since initial release. It was a quite a suprise to see Matrix's name associated with WW2OL on my last auto patch update. Does this mean Strategy First is out of the WW2OL mix? If so woohoo.. SF is the poster child for release disaster.

WW2OL has come along way since the inital release and just recently a major patch has been released which adds and improves a number of items.

Looking for a ww2ol squad visit www.bkbhq.com

It's coming along Shaun. SF release was a disaster they just seem to have no sense at all and shame they are a Canadian company lol. WW2OL was unfinished on release but with steady patching it is coming along. Wish patch and new game items were more frequent but we do get new goodies every so often.

We finally got LMG's and smoke nades for the grunts.
Hook up with a squad and grab teamspeak. Voice coms and a good bunch of stalwart mates and hours of gun blazing fun.

I personally Love the game. I joined up about a year go - I read all about the horror stories after release, but I gurantee you the game is mighty good now, and keeps getting better.

Shaun and Aqua, you might want to check it out again, I think you will be pleasantly suprised.

P.S. if you have any questions about the game as it stands now, ask away.

WWIIOnline has moved along very nicely. You would not even notice the game now compared to initial release. Play nearly every day for a couple of hours.

I play WWIIOnline several hours every day. After running around with a couple of friends for a little while I joined a squad and that is when the game got interesting. I worked my way up to command the group, then 2 groups and now when online can command up to 6 groups and coordinate with leaders commanding as many. I have not had this type of experience in any other wargame and I have been wargaming since 1980.

I played with a squad as well. The camaradarie was outstanding and, basically, the only thing that held my interest. It was kinda fun to drink beer, shoot the crap with the guys on RW, and ride around in the back of a truck for 20+ minutes at a time before arriving at a staging point. But aside from the truck-ride simulation, it went downhill from there for me. :D

I did stick around with it, off and on, for a little over a year and I check in at my old squad's forum every once in a while to see how the game is progressing. It still looks to me that it will be somewhere around v2.5 or 3.0 before there'd be enough improvement for me to give it a try again.

If I'm not mistaken, you were in MY squad, agua. Is that right? 3RTR?

In any case, you're right, it did absolutely blow chunks for a long time. The release was profoundly bad, so I understand your distaste.

The graphics used to be horrible. The artists redid the infantry, and now they look stunningly good. The move to OpenGL made things like smoke possible, and there are ambiant sounds now. I'm no blind follower, either. The game gets this kind of praise from me because it simply deserves it.

When I DO have criticisms, I'm very vocal about them, and when they don't get responded to, I get even more pointed about it. There've been times when I've been so livid about a major flaw that I go into dissertations on why it's wrong/bad/whatever, to the point that it goes as far as questioning competance.

Oh, man... it gets fun then. :p

Seriously, you wouldn't recognize the game now. It's kinda like the girl you knew in high school who wasn't pretty, then running into her years down the road & she looks so good you'd dig a mile of telephone cable just to hear her flatulate.

It's all good, though. To each his own, but you owe it to yourself to have another peek if you believe a word I've said.

Nice to see all the WW2OL poeple join us on these forums :)
Already said it on another thread, but i'll repeat myself.
Playing in a squad is what makes it the most fun.

There's nothing like crawling to town with squad mates after being dropped off a truck behind a tree line, calling tanks on Team Speak to our air support, watch Stukas dive bomb on them and start to run to town.

Hello to all those i've met on the battlefield and those i'll meet.

WHEELZ?!? Hey man!! What's goin' on?

Oh, I believe that YOU really like it man. I don't doubt that at all. I remember your rants on the changes made on FB destructability (is that what it was?) :D
So, I'm WELL aware you aren't a blind fanboy or something. [Edit] Yeah, now I'm remembering you giving those guys absolute HELL about those Stukas LOLOL!! That was pretty funny stuff man. :D [End edit]

See, for me, it wasn't a niggle with, say, "the 109 can't be taken down from shots to the rear" or what have you; it was the core gameplay design that just was uninteresting. It was as if CRS sat around and, being aware that they could make some damned good 3D animated vehicles, didn't think about the objectives of the game except as an afterthought. Like, "hey! cool. Now, what are we going to have these vehicles do in the game?". So they came up with that exclusive focus on capturing a flag in a town center, spawn from there, and move on to the next town to do the same. It just wasn't interesting.

The problem with the prediction model was pretty bad for inf play as well. Ya know: where it is actually an advantage to be running around rather than stationary in a defensive position because the moving player is not really (or only coincidentally) where you perceive him to be displayed on the screen. Accordingly, you *think* you've fired about 2-3 shots into him only to be killed while he appears to be standing still in front of you or suddenly warps past you to some other location. That was pretty lame. Same with the inf's camera view being located near the abdomen after one of their patches; you *think* you're behind some cover barely peering through with your head, when in actuality, the entire upper half of your torso is sticking out for all to view. They ever get either of those things ironed out?

I do have to say I was surprised to read they added smoke grenades, though. That had long been an item I'd been yelling for. It was murder trying to assault those ABs without smoke.

LOL! I knew it was you!

Yeah, I flip when things are FUBAR, but I make valid points & always try to discuss them rationally. Unless they ignore me. *tic* :p

Anyway, oh man.... SO much has changed. They added attrition, depot spawning, and again, the OpenGL effects are incredible. They also revisited the sound, and MAN, when you hear the whistles of bombs coming in now, it'll make your heart skip a beat.

The collision detection was worked on also, as well as the prediction code. They are soon going to be adding more infantry emotes, like pointing. We can salute now! It's just immersive as all-hell. We're working in enormous attacks now, and it's just a world of difference from what it was.

Believe it or not, I actually learned how to fly. :) It's not uncommon at all for me to be flying in formation with 5 - 10 other guys, and when I see a 109 now, I'm drooling like a Pavlovian pooch instead of saying "Oh no!"

It's hella fun when it's on it's game.

Good to see ya, bro! I remembered your name in the standard 3RTR purple. :p

Great to see you too Wheelz. How far off are they on implementing that "brigade" spawning feature? What about the inf' camera in the abdomen? They get that fixed yet?

Anyway, if Matrix has any input or provides any assistance to CRS beyond simply a marketing partnership, it definitely is good news for ww2ol as Matrix has a solid rep for strong support.
