Krakow's Charge.. *New Mission*

Post by Sleeping_Dragon »

Alright.. here's my 1st attempt at a mission. I need some opionions on how ya'll think it is.. too easy?.. too difficult?.. or just plain dumb.

I *THINK* I've balanced it for ~900 tons with Ace jocks to be hard, but more tons 'should' be ok.. less tonnage and you're asking for it. If you play it let me know how it went difficulty-wise and what kind (wieght, number, experience level) of squad you played it with. Also if someone could double check my spelling and fun stuff like that. It's not passwork protected so if anyone whats to take a look at how I set it up and give me some advise, feel free. If I get some usable feedback I have an idea for another one.

Spelling check. LMK if you need anything else.
Will try the mission when I have the time.

Looked pretty good to me. I played through it with my squad from the Metaborator. (Remember what I said about overkill? :) ) It was actually still a pretty tough fight with my eight assaults. Though I didn't actually lose any, three of my titans were crippled by the end of the battle, missing legs and/or LoTs, as well as an arm or torso. I took out the second team first, since they dropped in close by, but the first team's configuration against me came up with 3 Devastators, which gave the enemy teams murderous long range firepower, even while working through scanner links.

All in all, a good stiff fight. I would imagine that for lower tonnage and/or less experienced groups, it could be quite a nightmare.

Thanks a bunch Iceman! I know speel two good :p I caught what I could but things tend to stand out better if you didn't write them yourself.

The text screens are a major pain in the editor.. the way they look in the editor is rarely the way they turn out on the screen in the actual game.. there seems to be some kind of 'line rollover' or something.. commonly getting odd breaks in the text with a few line with only a single word on them.. makes for tedium try to fix.

Tarendelcymir, thanks for the feedback! sounds like it did give you a bit of a fight... good:) Although I am little worried it may be too hard. The only squad I have to test it with is the one I ran the Metaborator with. 5 jocks.. 4 of which are now Heros and a total of ~700 tons. Gave them a fit and I knew what was happening. From what you mentioned it sounds like the battle ran like I wanted it too. 2 Devestators come standard :) (3rd was a random titan to make up for your excess tonnage)

Did the 1st squand reach your position as you were finishing off the 2nd squad? or did you whack the 2nd squad with time to spare?

May make this the 1st map of a campain (you can sorta get the hint from the text) if people are interested. Have definate ideas for 2 more maps, then some vague ideas for some following them.

More feedback when others get around to playing this one will be VERY useful. thx

I was working on the last titan of the second squad when the first titan of the first squad showed up. Since it was a light left in the second squad, I left two of my assaults to deal with it and turned the other six against the first squad. When the third titan of the first squad showed up, the missiles from the pack of Devastators started flying in, making things very interesting. :)

Don't let your text go all the way to the right margin, if you feel like counting characters only 255 per line are displayed :) More than that, and you get that line break you experienced. I force line breaks myself, to make sure it displays the way I want. There's also a limit on the number of lines of text, 38 in briefings, [33 - # of jocks] in debriefings.
Also, I try to avoid using the placeholders, they mess up the formatting because you have no control over the length of the squad's name or the leader's name or whatever.

I will suggest using the placeholders but using own linebreaks at ~200 characters.

Depends on the size of your text really. You have to work with the limit on the # of lines too.
You can work with the approx length of the mission info header, that usually looks good. Less than that usually doesn't.

The placeholders, well, they also had that problem I told you about during beta, dunno if it's been fixed or not. They're ok in event texts (barring said problem), but I don't like them in briefings/debriefings.
